Wouldn't it be more efficient just to say that we will post something here when we DO receive the film?

The way I see it:
If you pay for it, you have a right to complain if it does not get to you soon

If you get it for free you wait.

I'm waiting.

an interesting response from kodak:

We are busy manufacturing sample film, and we were overwhelmed with the response on this one causing us to close out the program early. In the end we had demand for 35K individuals to sample versus the 22K mailings produced. So we will struggle with the 2-3 week delivery for the 23K-35K portion. The historical promotional data and the digital decline rates had us believing that 22K might have been optimistic. Please tell the customer to be patient, and due to the overwhelming response we are creating more film and mailers to accommodate this demand. We were only obligated to fulfill the first 20K requests. Plus let them know that we hope that they enjoy the free sample film ...(they did not have to do a thing to earn it except provide some contact information).

I hope that this helps!

I hope they forward this data to Perez. Interesting that Film has an overwhelming demand.

Kodak gave out a lot of free film at Photo Plus in New York just over a week ago - and they offered a choice of format and type. Neither Fuji nor Ilford were giving film away.

Best,

Not to take credit and all that, but here is a letter I sent to Kodak way back on Oct 10, about a week before the Free New Portra Offer was announced.

"Thank for your quick message. I am a well respected 100% film based wedding photographer (....) and I can't seem to get this new film. It used to be that I had a working relationship with my area Kodak (and Fuji) reps, and when a new film product was released, they made sure that fairly soon I could get a sample roll or two to test and work into my shooting. This was an effective way to promote the new product and get it into the hands of the people who use it. Perhaps in other areas of the country, 'Q4' is a great time to Slowly introduce a new wedding film, but way out here in Hawaii we shoot weddings all the year around. Considering that I have a busy 'Q4' and will be making a (large) film purchase for my projected busy Q1, 2 and especially 3, if I am to be using this film in the next year I need this film to test, soon. Or, I will have to make other arrangements for my company's large film purchase.

Perhaps Kodak, thru its ProPass network, should offer a tester 4-pack of one roll of 160NC, VC, 400 NC, VC to qualified professional shooters, perhaps even with a nominal fee. I was a ProPass member, in fact I still think I am, but after filling out 3 or so surveys where I fully state that I am 100% film and have no future plans to incorporate any digital, I have seen the 'Pro' pass Network devote itself to nearly all digital. I don't really pay attention to it much, until now there is this new film, made for my 'market segment', promoted to me, with on-line ads and all, and I can't get it. All my local Kodak dealers (and believe me, I know them all on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii) say they have had No News about getting these, and additionally are hesitant to Order Any Portras, due to the fact that they don't want to be 'stuck' with the 'old' emulsion. So the 'stock turnover basis', may be much much longer than 'Q4', which might be alright for those 'March to September' wedding photographers, but leave me in a lurch, so to speak.

My reason for this communication is to express the facts to someone at Kodak from a real, honest to goodness working professional. I'm always trying to gain a positive edge, something to improve my photography and to enhance the experience of my clients, and the announcement of an improved version of one of my most used Kodak films is a cause for elation. The feeling is muted by the reality that I, even as a 20 year professional, as the intended market user of this Kodak product, can't get this film to test, ( let alone have any assurances of an adequate, stable amount of stock for my business needs).
Kodak needs to quickly examine how it takes care of its professional film photography customers, and hollow promises with over-promotion and under-distribution is a great way to further alienate this products' target market."

So there you have it. One week later Kodak does a promotion, and Optimistically projects 20K response and gets 35k instead. Surprise!
Pro's still shoot film.

Yeah, Imageworks is great, Christine is my usual Kodak dealer.

She is an APUG member, but I haven't seen her posting. I've got several pieces of used equipment from her, and had her order some hard to get items. She is great.
