How's the flooding in your area ? The streams and rivers are set to crest here in the next 48 hours; so it will be interesting to see what happens. It seems as if the bulk of the rain is over with - put perhaps the worst is yet to come.

The Richmond area was pretty fortunate, we only got ~3 inches of rain. West of us in the mountains, however got lots more so the James River is expecting to crest at 18 feet, which is 6 feet above flood stage. The floodwall should be able to withstand that.

The Lehigh River has already gone over the banks here in Walnutport, PA. We are maybe 10'? above the river banks. No water has gotten in to the basement. But the sump pump has been running awhile. The circuit breaker to the sump pump was tripped a few times (solved the problem) and water got to the top of the sump hole (since has fallen) and moved the photos, frames, and mat boards that were stored on the finished basement carpeted floor upstairs to avoid a problem. Hopefully we will not have any major problem, but it was forecast that the river would continue to rise at least through this evening.

Well sounds like so far we're all dry.
The local rivers here are about 2-4' above flood. The worst part about my area is that we have little streams that usually carry 300-500cu/ft sec that now range in the 20k cu/ft sec.

We had over 12 inches here in 48 hours, but fortunately for me I live on top of a 150 foot hill. Almost everyone else I know has either had some flooding or had the sump pump going non-stop. I did discover leaks in the roof and trunk of the car, and had to bail about four inches of water out from under the spare tire. Luckily the car was going in for body work today anyway from the hit and run last week. The Potomac should be flooding significant sections of Old Town soon.

IRS, Justice and the National Archives remain closed. The Museums of American History and Natural History hope to have power restored and to be open sometime tomorrow. No word yet on the National Gallery of Art, which was closed today.

DC took a big hit. And it was just a lot of heavy rain. I shudder at the thought of a true disaster.

That's the Washington Metro area for you. Five years after 9/11 and we still aren't prepared for even an oversized rainstorm. Meanwhile, DHS continues to provide preparedness grants to the Dakotas.

According to USGS, the DE river is at 207000 cu/ft sec - an all time record (records have been kept for 93 years at that location). The last previous record was 37700 cu/ft sec in 1938.
The creek that runs past hit a huge record as well, the graph says it all:

The rivers should hit max in the next 24hrs.
