OK Folks, we have seven names plus mine. I'm out of commission this weekend, but I will finalize a list on Tuesday, and maybe we can get started. I'll take new names or information up until Tuesday. Any suggestions on how to arrange the exchanges? Randomly, that is blind? Or geographically close? Geographically far? I'm up for guidance.

Thanks! Looks like fun.

I organize the BPX. The postage fee form US to beyond the sea has increased in the last years. I got a photograph which costs 40$ fee! From Germany to US I pay around 4$.

You should take this into account. Of course it may be fine to send a simple postcard made from a toy camera negative. This is not this expansive.

Yeah, I'm definitely pretty far out. Postage fees in Japan are very reasonable, so for me the cost isn't very much, but it may be for others if they get me in the exchange.

One just has to accept the fact that postage to different people living in different places will vary and may be quite high, or on another exchange quite low. It's all part of the package called 'print / postcard exchange'. And for a hand printed photo, a few bucks in the end is really cheap!

UK (Where it's not the cheapest place to pay postage to far off places.)

Down to the last few days. I have 9 folks on the list. If you haven't already sent me your snail mail info, please do so. Maybe I can get the exchange list out on Friday.

OK Folks, we now have nine names on the list. They are, in alphabetical order of APUG handle: awty, graciemansion, jerevan, Jon Shiu, Matt King, mfohl, mooseontheloose, piu58, and tezzasmall. And we are from all over the planet!

This afternoon, I will use a random sequence generator to pair off the participants. Since there is an odd number, the last three will round-robin exchange. I will send the mailing info to each participant, and we can get started. I’m hoping we can have prints in the mail by July 1. That will give us time to make prints. My print is not yet made.

Let me know if there are any issues.

Thanks! I’m excited!

Sounds good! I’m hoping to get my darkroom back up and running today so hopefully I can get started on working on a print for this exchange.

Here are the results from the magic computer sequence generator: 8 6 5 7 4 1 9 2 3. And the pairings are as follows:

mfohl - piu58
Matt King - moose
Jon Shiu - awty
tezz - gracie - jerevan

I will send the snail mail info via messages. Let me know if there are any issues.

Snail mail addresses all sent out. I intend to send an 8x10 print so as to keep postage costs reasonable. Let me know when you receive a print.

Cheers,

-- Mark

I am going to sort things out and get going too. Weather is not really cooperating for basking in the sun with a contact printing frame at the moment ...

It is sunny around here, mid-morning summer light.

The doorbell buzzes and the friendly postman stands by the door. He gives me a cardboard roll. "Just wanted to bring this", he says and is off down the stairs before I can say anything. How odd it is, receiving a print from a stranger half a world away.

Thanks for the reminder about the wonders of postmen and analog photography.

Thanks, jerevan. That's at least three sent and two received. Receiving prints is why I like this. You can look at anything on the internet, but holding a print in your hand, that somebody else made, is much more real and intimate.

Keep updating the status, Folks!

Today I received a print from mfohl, who organizes this exchange, It is a Holga shot of a magic place, perhaps in a garden. It fits very well to this exchange. Thank you!

How are we doing? Myself, piu58, and jerevan have received prints. Anybody else? Anybody else sent prints?

Still trying to get my print done.

Still trying to find the time to get down to printing too - sorry about that!

Same 'excuse' as others, although I have two rolls of 35mm film to develop, which were taken on 'toy' cameras. So now I just need to find some time to print a few.
