I actually have delta 100 inside a camera with a 28mm Elmerit. Will throw that in it to see. Also forgot to mention both delta3200 and TMAX400 got thin scratches from my squeegee. Never got scratches with Xtol developed films.
I'm kind of with you, DD-X can look too clinical, a bit like a perfectly exposed digital image histogram. On the other hand it does bring out the sharpness in something like Delta 100. Not wanting to blame my tools I don't think it is the end of the world, just another learning curve.

Can I ask what you think is the correlation between the scratches from your squeegee with the films you mention above and no scratches from any of the Xtol developed films?

Never got scratches before.I wonder if it has to do with the developer.

No. Developers don't scratch film but squeegees can and do . Unless you can be sure that each time your squeegee is completely grit free and has not hardened with time you run the risk of scratches

The safer method is to use the insides of your middle fingers and run these down both sides of the film to rid it of wetting agent or water

I am not saying developer scratched it. But it is possible that the XX-D combination with Kodak stop and Ilford fixer and wetting agent does something chemically to the film. Because I have never had any issues checking my squeegee and gently squeegeeing my films.

I will not say this is impossible as I am not a photo-chemistry expert but if there was a risk of this combination ie. DDX, Kodak Stop, Ilford Fixer and wetting agent doing something to the film chemically of the kind you experienced, then in the many years of people using this combination this would have happened a lot and would be a disaster waiting to happen each time, wouldn't it

Each part of the combination is completely compatible with the other so really I suppose that I am saying the answer is No, it is not possible

However you are free to believe whatever you believe in terms of the combination being a possible scratch producing effect or any other kind of damage producing effect on the negatives

Some developers may have a greater tendency to soften emulsions than others.

In this combination is this likely to lead to what radost experienced? All I was trying to do to assist him was to offer the kind of explanation that may have resulted in scratching i.e. the squeegee rather than what appears to be a most unlikely cause, namely the use of the combination of DDX then Kodak stop and finally Ilford fixer and wetting agent

The reasons emulsions are hardened in the first place include making them less resistant to physical damage from handling, including from things like squeegees.
Different developers can have slightly different effects on that hardening.
