I'm in Birmingham, Alabama. Have lived in Huntsville and Montgomery, AL too--so I'm familiar with those areas.

I shoot medium format with a Hassy 500CM, Mamiya RB67, and Mamiya 645 Super. I've been a people photographer mostly, but am venturing back into fine art and landscape.

Kinda lonely being a film lover nowadays!

I'm not from Alabama, but I do want to say welcome to APUG. You aren't going to feel lonely here.

2nd that. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome, and don't give up on film. The quality you can get with your setup kills the best digital pix, IMO. You can mail order supplies if you have to! There is Freestyle, Samy's, B&H, and there are more shops as well.

I am not from there, but I just passed near your town on a cross-country road trip this January. I was on the way to stay with a friend of a friend up in Jasper, on Corridor X. I got one of my favorite pictures from an offramp there the next day. The next day, I went up smaller roads (69, 79, U.S. 72; through Guntersville and Scotsboro) into Chattanooga. BEAUTIFUL state, and beautiful part of the state. Lucky you!

Yes, there are some........ but the others here do not hold it against us. I live in Montgomery, but, was in the Birmingham area for a number of years.
Welcome to Apug!

Hey william, welcome.Check out sloss furnaces if you have not already.I traveled there with a fellow apuger from georgia and we had a great time and got some good pics.A lot of fine art type photo possibilities there. My folks live in huntsville/new market area so i venture over to al every couple of months.I want to go back to the furnaces again as i missed taking pictures of so much cool stuff. They have a website just google the name, they are tripod friendly.

i just recently moved from florida to huntsville . i like it so far .

I live just north of Alabama in southern middle Tennessee. I was in Florence this past weekend.

I live in Memphis, but get to Birmingham on occasion when transporting rescue wiemarners.

I am in Birmingham as well. I shoot a lot of 35mm and Hasselblad, holga on occasion, and just started in the realm of 4x5 as well. I refuse to give up film

I'm in Birmingham. I shoot a 35mm Leica. Just love the look and can't seem to find a digital camera that fully compares. B&W + some C-41 color. Processing my own B&W and scanning. About once a year I get the itch to run a roll or two of E-6 through.

I moved a couple months ago from Arkansas. Now we're smack-dab in the middle between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

Good Morning, William,

I'm in southern Illinois, but my brother has lived in Alabama for about forty years, currently in Prattville. I have made the trip down there many times, usually via Paducah, Nashville, and Birmingham. Is the U. S. 78 interchange with I-65 north of Birmingham finished yet?

Nope. Ya still have to take the U.S. highway out for a bit before you can hop on.

Good Evening, Spacer,

Thanks. I keep hoping that eventually the connection will be made. Using the St. Louis-Memphis-Birmingham-Montgomery route will provide a little scenic variety at some point.

Heh... I live in Memphis, and I'll be going to St. Louis for a short vacation this coming weekend (Nov. 11-13). I'll be in the Soulard area, my favorite part of St. Louis, and probably hopping around the Grand Ave. district as well. I've been going to St. Louis for years, but haven't done much intensely photography-related. Are there any nooks and crannies I should know about? I did pick up a couple of cameras in the Cherokee antique shop district last year.

As for Memphis, I'd like to perhaps get a photowalk (or in the case of 4x5, photo-stand?) together for us film shooters. I do all formats, B&W and C-41, have darkroom.

I used to work in Pine Hill for months at a time, if that counts
