I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an economical scale with acceptable accuracy and capacity?

You didn't say what kind of accuracy or capacity you need. I use an iBalance 201 which can weigh 200g with an accuracy of .01g.

I use two scales in the darkroom.

My workhorse Ohaus triple beam balance can weight 1500kg +- 1g.

I also have small electronic scale that can weight quantities up to about 200g +- 0.1g.

I'll bet there is a decimal missing -- 1500kg is 1.5 metric tons:eek:

www.dealextreme.com has several scales. I got one there 300g 0.01g resolution delivered for less than US$15. It is accurate when measuring coinage (that has published weights & are quite precise when new). It has a Tare function,

I used an Ohaus triple beam for many years. Success movings finally killed it, but now I have an Ohaus Scout, which is a digital scale.

There are many models that offer .01 accuracy, mine is .1, which is all I need for photographic purposes. A quick check found one for about $160. (400g x .1), which is much less than the "Pro" model costs. It's been great...
