I had a G1 years ago with some lenses. I had a thing for Contax since the IIa I had and enjoyed when I was a teen. But I never got on with the G1- couldn’t put my finger on it. Too automatic perhaps? Wasn’t comfortable with the autofocus, they call it a rangefinder but isn’t really. Wonderful lenses. The G series does feel great in the hand.

I use two Contax G1 bodies with 21mm, 28mm, 45mm, and 90mm lenses.

Loved those titanium bodies and Zeiss lenses so much that when I bought a Leica M6, I bought a titanium body Leica with a Zeiss 35mm lens.

G1, G2 and 28, 45, 90. Also a group of Contax flash rigs from smallest to largest. Not using these enough and need to give them some exercise....

I have two G1's, one green label and one plain, I love them both. I thought about getting a G2, but for as much as I shoot 35mm it wasn't worth it to me. I know folks go on about the small finder on the G1, but I can get along with it just fine. Is it as good as my Leica M-series cameras that I had? Nope, but I like it better than the old IIIa Leica I still own. I have the 28mm, 45mm and the 90mm and they are as good as what everybody out there says. I also us the lenses on my m4/3 and Sony A7RII DSLR's. The 28mm only goes on the G1 and M4/3. It's a mush mess on the Sony. All said and done I could easily get rid of all my other 35mm film cameras and just keep the two G1's. The only thing I see as a problem with the G1 camera body is the LCD's have a tendency to bleed similar the the older Minolta Maxxum cameras. I bought a "parts only" G1 off the big auction site and installed its good LCD for the one that was half gone on my green label G1. Simple job to do and well worth it. JohnW

I considered purchasing a Contax G2 back in 2000 when I was in the market for a new camera. While I did not end up selecting the Contax, it struck me as an impressive camera in many ways. If I recall correctly, there was something about either the viewfinder or how the focusing worked (or both?) that I wasn't comfortable with. Regardless, the G series cameras were very cool.
