When looking through my 105/2.4 lens, I feel as if I'm looking through a tunnel. That's strange, because 127mm and 140mm lenses on my RB67 don't give me that claustrophobic sensation.

Rather than get the more common 90mm, I'm seriously considering the 75mm. Opinions of that lens?

There is two very different 75mm lenses. One can be had for pocket change, the other one costs more than a new kidney.

This is the 75/4.5, all metal construction with the nice scalloped focus ring. Are the optical designs of these 75mm variants identical and the only changes are cosmetic?

Reports on the net seem favorable.

Does that one cost a kidney? I have two, so I can spare one.

Three versions of the 75mm:

75mm f4.5 shift
75mm f4.5, and
75mm f2.8AL

Cosmetically, the newer SMC Pentax 67-designated lenses (1989-1990) were given a modern make-over: out went the ancient Takumar look and in came the attractive knurled focusing ring - a change that was reflected right through the new lens designation. My needs dictated additional speed when using a polariser, hence I angled for the f2.8 version.

The 75/2.8AL is a little (just a little!) on the weighty side, but it makes up for this with quite impressive optical performance (2 asph elements, with the front protected, to avoid contact from filters). There are interesting features e.g. the very light touch spring-assisted aperture ring, precise light-touch focus and the precision of the aperture blades.

The price of this lens is increasing, and is sought after both by the old Pentax 6x7 /67 camera owners and the newer Pentax 67II, which it looks quite at home on.

A mint/nib specimen could command $1600+ (with its own OEM petal hood, featuring the little POL filter adjustment trapdoor). Japanese sellers can be found asking more than $2,400+, but collusion and profiteering from seemingly "very rare" Pentax 67 lenses is common, and unjustified. The lens is not strictly rare, but as an interesting note, it was not produced in massive quantities like other SMC PENTAX 67-designated lenses.

A beautiful lens to use and admire if you can justify and afford it.

The regular 75mm f4.5 is meant to be very good optically too, albeit giving a somewhat dim viewfinder. It can be had for a tenth of the price of the 75 AL.

It's a good and valid point about the dim viewfinder, and one which I wholly agree with as a user of the 45mm f4 and KSM C-POL 99% of the time and that can be a damned horror focusing in marginal light -- I use the central-area viewfinder magnifier for critical focus in many irksome situations, along with a choice selection of swear words and foot stomping...

It all comes down to what one's needs are, now and in the future. Plenty can get by with the f4.5 versions of the 75mm without fuss or complaint. Others will have "been there, done that" with the dim and dark viewfinder and seen the benefits of the extra speed - at a price, unfortunately...

You can always focus without the filter, then carefully re-attach it (the filter itself will have an absolutely negligible affect on the focal point). Of course, if you are trying to focus at the working aperture (say f11+) to more accurately gauge DoF it can be a nighmare even without a filter!

Being able to blow things up to 100% in live-view for perfect focus and have a fully bright image at any aperture is one of the things I miss most from working with digital cameras.

............out of curiosity i actually did it (and therefore I changed language into american english because Australia wasn't avaible) well : WHAT IT CAME UP WITH ?

Hand holding a P67 isn't that difficult. You frame the image in the finder the press the MLU button without moving camera from your eye and press the shutter. Voila, done nine times out of ten.
