Just thought I'd bump this thread. I know it's "only" June, but a little planning goes a long way...

(...as I've found out with other APUG endeavers.)

Hey how about a little closer for the Oklahoma folk???

YES, PALO DURO CANYON!!! right outside Amarillo only 6 hours from me. And it is Texas, my home town! Yea

Keep 'em coming..had a PM from a PM suggesting the Heart of Texas - Brady. Since there are a few here from the Lone Star State is only reason suggestion was made. If a big group wants to meet up anywhere in the region we should consider it. Am aware that by Sep/Oct some will have kiddos back in school and time could be limited for travel. If it looks like we could pull more than one off, there is NO reason not to! BTW, I think Palo Duro would be great fun.

If we're talking Amarillo, we'd have to hit the Cadillac Ranch for a shootin' opportunity (hell, we could even produce "The APUG Cadillac Ranch Folio" and sell off copies with some of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer (I mention this, since it looks like the cars were all painted pink at one point as a tribute to breast cancer victims).

There's also Route 66.

I haven't been home in a long time, but I heard that the Cadillac ranch is now covered in graffiti. It made me very sad. I hope it's not true.

I've never been. The two times I've been to Amarillo, I didn't have as good directions for finding the sculpture as on that website I linked to above.

My understanding (from that same website) is that the owner encourages folks to leave their mark.

He is quite a character alright!!

Kevin,

The cadillacs are right on I 40 about 10 miles west of town. They are on the left side of the hiway if you are headed west about 300 yards up in the pasture. There is a gate to allow everyone to walk up and touch or paint the cars.

Gay: The grafitti is part of the "art".

Just posting to see if there would be any interest in a get together, there are a few of us. Say maybe late Sep. early Oct. so it is not quite so hot. Ideas on when/where welcome.

Just thought I'd bump this, since late Sept. is but 2 months away. And, I "know how we are".

Also, "not quite so hot" would be a remarkable thing! :surprised:

I just found this thread. I Live in Amarillo. October ( Indian Summer) is a great time of year on the high plains. Mild days and cool evenings are the rule but the weather can be very unpredicitble. Palo Duro Canyon is all dressed up in the fall, great colors, clear skies with lots of deer and turkey as well. I will be moving to a new home and have a daughter that is getting married in the fall. No confirmed dates yet but I might be able to help get a West Texas meet organized.

McKenna,
I already suggested Amarillo for Palo Duro Canyon a while back.... sure agree with you.

Evening Everyone...Thanks to all that have responded. There are several that have mentioned Amarillo and I agree that it is a good location. About a 6 hour drive for many, but much more for those south of the metro mess (Austin,Houston, San Antonio areas).

Would like to hear everyones thoughts on Amarillo - or perhaps having two seperate shoots. I know that means not everyone would make both, maybe have them at the same time. For those in the FW/D area could pick which one was more to your liking.

David's suggestion about the Photo San Antonio was interesting for me...so let's hear from those to the south, what places do you (would you) like to try? This is really just a chance to get together with some other photogs, enjoy some company, cuss/discuss some photography..put a face to a name, share work with each other and maybe do some shooting (and maybe a chance to see some format you have not seen before). It can be just for a Saturday, or maybe a long weekend.

Thoughts????

I like Amarillo, but it would entirely depend on what weekend we are talking about.

I'd be up for Amarillo in October. Palo Duro sounds good to me.

I think Amarillo sounds good as well.

Appears to be some interest in Amarillo in the fall. There will be one weekend in Oct. that I will be tied up. Youngest Daughter is getting married. She hasn't picked the date yet, but we should know this weekend. I will be happy to arrange for accommodations and a meeting place when I get the wedding date settled.

...a needle pulling thread.
La, a note to follow sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to...

Anything more than a day trip is out for me......unless someone wants to volunteer to get 3 kids to soccer games, football games, scout campouts, and plan an 8 yr old's birthday party??

Y'all have fun. I'll catch ya next time!
