Right! My guys have it all.

Everywhere I check, film is available for "in store" only. Closest camera shop these days is 60 miles east of me. Both of our local shops closed in the last 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if some (a lot) of this is KA telling the big mail-order places that they (B&H etc) can no longer demand extraordinary rebates, etc. May be the case with some others too.
Nikon D6, Z9 have been out of stock forever but Nikonusa will sell you one direct.

mschem - The short supply of Fuji papers is easily explained. 1) There's a serious pandemic going on which has dramatically affected both supply and labor in every mfg country involved; 2) for the same reason shipments of all kinds of things have gotten all backed up, especially in relation to shipping containers, large trucks etc.; 3) numerous photo-related businesses weren't even open for months on end; and 4) Kodak was relocating their own manufacture of color paper to China, and the failure of that operation to get fully up and running on schedule due to the pandemic left Fuji as the only primary supplier, and therefore overwhelmed with demand right when it was the most difficult to fill those greater quantities.

Fortunately, I placed my order for a big roll of Fuji color paper with B&H six months in advance of anticipated need. It actually took seven months to get. But I can't complain. The supply issue IS gradually improving.

If you're in the US, I find most of the CVS drug stores near me have 3-packs of Fuji Superia 400 in stock for around $28. High, but if you get a coupon in those four foot long receipts they give you, you might get a discount. I got a coupon for 25% off anything in the store and used it for film.

Big question. Will Kodak (Eastman and Alaris) invest in "de-bottlenecking" for producing more 135 films?

I doubt this requires upsizing production capacity, it just requires running at capacity for some time to refill the pipeline once they're able to produce all products (i.e. after the supply chain recovers). They were handling things fairly well on the film production side before the pandemic.

IIRC Kodak has had issues with procuring the cassette metal end caps. That can cause problems with production.

Yup I just walked into my local CVS and bought some. I have plenty already but hey it was there and it will eventually be used. FYI cheaper than B&H (not in stock) and Adorama.

Was roadtripping and stopped off at a Rite Aid in Paso Robles for water. Out of curiosity I checked their film situation.
They had Fuji Superia 400 36 for $20/roll. 3 pack of 400/36 for $40...
BUT! 3 pack of Fuji C200/36 for $27. So if you're on the road, or happen to be by a Rite Aid and need film, it's worth taking a look.

Are you saying that KA is exercising its power in the demand exceeding supply situation and behaving just like the gas and oil producers currently are or indeed any company is likely to that is in a similar position?

I can make any survey put any store as either the most expensive or least expensive. Surveys are somewhat less than useless.

No. They picked the same grocery list that covers a 'normal' grocery store run and used it to shop all the stores so they could have an even comparison.

I am not upset at all. For produce the are usually lower cost and higher quality than Ralphs. I laugh a the surveys that list Bristol Farms as a bargain. A bargain they are not, but they do have some hard to get specialty foods. Besides what you buy I may not and visa versa.

Remember when it was $2? A few years back Dateline (or a show like it) did an expose on Charles Shaw, and how he sold his name to whoever used it for the 2bukChuk 'label'.
He acted all miffed because when he sold the wine under his name, no sales. But it skyrocketed after he sold the rights to his name, and so he felt stiffed, like they should now give him more money.
I like it for cooking (I'm not much of a drinker but like the reds for my pasta sauces, and the whites for when I sautee french beans in butter and garlic).

The grocery price survey didn't include Draegers - that would have knocked Sprouts out of top spot.

My experience is that B&H, Adorama & Co. may show no stock on films because although they are getting regular shipments it goes out the door filling backorders as soon as it comes in. Put in a backorder and wait, it will come.

But why when you can get it cheaper from places that actually have it in stock?
I just don’t get the devotion to places like B&H as if they are the only places that sell gear.
I’ve stopped using B&H since they think it is ok to ship a $2000 camera bouncing around in a big box with maybe one thin piece of bubble wrap in there that has come off. But their return policy states that you need to securely pack what you are sending back.

Back on topic in the uk colour film supplies are still very limited to the extent kodak 250d is being offered as an alternative (and bulk rolls of that are sold out too)

in 35mm all thats reliably on offer is portra 800 or lomo 800, plus some portra 400 and occasionally ektar.

Consumer film is very hard to get regardless of cost, suppliers get an odd case or so and so it sells almost immediately. Currently someone has some superia xtra 400. One supplier briefly had colorplus, first time in 3 years!
