I am reading a detective story published in 1929 by R Austin Freeman.
The central character is scoffed at for using his pocket camera, and goose neck camera support on a light tripod. Triggered with an Antinous release. Plate cameras were probably the norm for forensic work.
I have never heard of an Antinous release. The search here on Photrio reveals nothing.
Apparently an Antinous Release is a cable release. Made with various fittings for different cameras.
So now you know.
A useless piece of information unless you are into photographic history.😀

"ANTINOUS RELEASE
Originally a proprietary name, now commonly applied to all flexible wire or cable types of shutter release."

"commonly applied" ... well, I got that from the 1960 edition.

Anyway, all we lazy fellows who still not know that edition by heart now have something nice for namedropping...
Thank you, Bob.

You probably don't want to know Don. Ignorance may indeed be bliss.
