Anti-static cleaning cloths

How long does the anti-static properties last? I have an Ilford anti-static cloth that's now pushing 2 years old. All it says on the bag is to not wash the cloth, and that the bag will help keep it clean but won't extend the useful life. So what's the useful life?

Static off / lint on. I gave up on them decades ago.

I have and use one and keep it in the bag between uses. It keeps the dust off of my negatives. But I'm to the point now that I wonder if any good cloth, such as one used to clean eyeglasses, would work just as well. In any case, I keep using it. If nothing else, they smell very effective.
