Can anyone tell me if Kodak black and white Aerial film has an anti-halation backing on it?. I purchased a new 9 1/2" roll of Double-X from a company in Ohio and I just recently read that some aerial films don't have this backing.

Thanks,

Doug:smile:

There are several ways to employ an anti-halation means. Do not stick to that term "backing".

Yes AgX, but when unprocessed film is ivory colour in appearance, then clearly it's with out anti-halation layer. Then when you processes negatives you can see extreme highlights "blooming".
No idea why did they omit anti-halation layer? It couldn't make this film much cheaper to produce? Only other films with out anti-halation layer i have seen in last 35 years were, slow copy films and Chinese Lucky 400.
I have seen another Kodak 70mm BW Aerial film with dark green backing but unfortunately haven't seen full name of it, it was missing. It just had label: Kodak Aerocon II.

It was designed for aerial photos at altitude which I suspect are considerably 'flatter' than 'regular' photos.

Only the "average" luminance ratio in aerial surveying is very low. But there can be substantial specular reflections.
