Ansel's Tree Requiem (watch in HQ)

The oak tree next to the Merced River in Yosemite National Park, most famously photographed by Ansel Adams, fell into the river sometime in February of 2009. It was a scene of the most exquisite morning light during a few months of the year - one which inspired me greatly during all months of the year. At least, or at most, we still have the photographs.

There are many similar old trees around New England and the light where they grow is also "exquisite" at times, but they weren't made famous by AA. In the White mountains of New Hampshire a natural profile of The Old Man - also depicted on there license plates and on the new 25 cent coins, among many other places, such as in paintings - toppled a few years ago. There was nothing similar anywhere. Only one. I never got a good photograph of it, but millions of people have. Hooray for photographs, especially the ones of people who have passed away.

I thought there was discussion of New Hampshire rebuilding the old man in the mountain with fiberglass? (No kidding). what happened to that?

Now, its time to get a fiberglass replacement tree to put on the bank where Ansel's tree fell....
