Hoorah Aggie... I would have stepped in to sing the chorus to your hymn (and it was beautiful, seriously) but you carried the day.

I think that in our collaborative effort, Aggie, that a designation of areas of interest and strength need to be established. You handle the overinflated egos of the aspiring human beings (movie stars) and I will take on the politicians that will never even get to the point of aspiration.

What do you think? Will this work?

Telling arguments, Aggie. I did not say that I agreed with Redford and his views, but he worked hard for what he believed. A test of reality, for me, would be to consider the alternatives: Are we to somehow limit a "dedication" to a cause according to some sort of scale that measures "celebrity"?
And, if so, how are we to separate the "celebrities" from the "politicians" - and
what would - or should - we have done with a celebrity - turned politician?

I am familiar with what I consider to be "misguided" crusades. Some time ago I toured the local Atomic Power plant (Seabrook, NH) with a good friend - and fellow pistol target shooter. He was the author of the report on Three Mile Island, written for the Nuclear Regulatory Commision - and the engineering *realities* at Seabrook are so far from the propaganda of the "Antis" as to make one's eyes water.

All we can do is to do all we can. I have defended Seabrook among trying situations, and sufferd the catcalls and hoots of those who will not listen to any viewpoint that even slightly deviates from their own. Our duty as citizens is to make sure that everyone has the chance to be heard.

Let me guess - the real "one-sided-ness" came not from "celebrity" but from unbalanced and prejudicial media coverage.... yes? - no?

Way to go, Aggie. I'll be the first to join your "Realist" Party!!

Come to think of it ... wasn't there a Realist camera?

I *like* the comments about your "Jewish Mother". Are you familiar with Aristophanes' "Lysistrata"? That play was performed in 1,049 locations around the globe on March 3 in protest of the looming Iraqi war.

The only difference was that the mothers were Greek (ca. 411 BCE) instead of Jewish.

I had two parts: "Magistrate" and "Athenian Delegate", here in Ipswich.

Those Greeks were a **lively** bunch!!

The problem is that a lot of people assume to many things about other people instead of concentrating on making beautiful photographs instead. Is it me or is anybody else finding this kind of self-rationalising behaviour too tedious?

Francesco, have you ever been to one of your wife's girl type parties? We call them various things over here, tea party, Hen party, Coffoe klatches, etc. Maybe more updated versions of those themes. Anyway what this is about is it may start out at the party wiht a subject matter to be discussed, by the end of the time, I bet they have solutions to why puppies have bad breath and where to find the best breast milk pumps. People tend to wander. They like to talk. It is called stream of conciousness. Basically if we didn't have ways of communicating besides just photography we would soon not care to communicate at all. Have fun and if you find a good solution to fleas on cats, let me know.

lol..... all my deleted posts mostly dealt with Bandini mountain. It was a mythical mountain persented to the Southern California denizens in the early 80's. a fertilizer company had created a mountain of sh** They had commercials of men (not women) skiing down it.

This sh** is just for fun. sit back and laugh. Write a new chapter to ansel Liebowitz. Have a drink, and enjoy the trip down the mountain.

Michael, You're Fired

You left out the part where after all the prep they have 11.2 minutes with Sean Penn looking very rugged in front of the out-of-focus background before he's whisked off back to his house in Ross, to say nothing of the crop-in on the final cover and the title and blurb text that covers everything other than Sean's haunted, piercing expression.

Francesco,

I intend this to be my last post on Apug.

I think that you are quite accurate in your observation. The attempt to "bump" this thread and then rationalize it as "stream of consciousness" is indicative to me of the level of functioning that some seem to operate at.

There is one thing that exists in overwhelming abundance on Apug, in my observation, that one thing is egotism. When egotism exists at this level then there can be no fellowship. Fellowship requires a group of equals. This does not exist on this site at this time. I hope for the sake of all that someday it will return.

I have had others privately ask me not to leave. I am sorry I can not in good conscience entertain that possibility. As my good friend Geo Losse told me awhile back, and I paraphrase...live your life as if it were a play and choose very carefully who you place in the front row of the audience. I will take that guidance to heart.

Good luck.

As I said in another thread, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Kick back, relax, and try not to take everything so damn seriously - you may actually start to enjoy yourself here. Yeesh.

Regarding egotism, I don't buy it. Many egotists? Doubtful. Sure, there are a few people who are full of themselves, but you'll find that in any community, online or otherwise. I and others tolerate them. Why can't you?

As the Eagles so adroitly put it on their "Hell Freezes Over' tour - Get Over It.
