I've read a few posts suggesting Series-VI filters for press cameras, with the idea of cramming a 44-52 (or whatever) step ring into the Series adapter and adding some JB Weld or epoxy. I have a full complement of 52mm filters for my smaller MF cameras, and so I got Series adapters from eBay for my 135 and 90mm lenses.
But... one of them came with several nice series filters; it suddenly got difficult for me to destroy an adapter to where it wouldn't accept filters - I'm like that, grew up poor I guess.
So, I got a 42-52 step ring (for a buck - I couldn't find a 44 anywhere affordably). There's a thin bevel-sort of protrusion/lip in the screw-in lock ring of the Series adapter. I found that grinding this lip out with a dremel tool allowed the 42mm thread to pop into place. In fact, I couldn't get it back out, though I could twist it a bit. So a added some Loctite red and let it dry. (To be clear, the step ring is attached to the Series retaining ring, not the adapter itself).
So, my 52mm Series adapter can still use Series filters - the adapter itself is a functional locking ring, and I also have the ring that came with the other adapter. So I can do Series or 52mm on either lens. I can use Series hoods or 52mm hoods, and I'm getting no vignetting with the 90, either.
Hope this helps someone looking for filters on a non-threaded press camera. Very happy when a grinder & hammer job comes out so nicely!
