Interesting. I looked up Elsa Dorfman, the photographer quoted in the article.

Not your average Polaroid user - she's one of the few using the Polaroid 20x24" cameras.

I do find it odd that near the end of the article she is quoted as saying "she assumes she'll eventually have to go the digital route" - how exactly is she going to get anywhere near the quality or characteristics of 20x24" film from a digital process?

I agree that was a good article, very intelligent for a newspaper. Not often you see a journalist quoting Roland Barthes from Camera Lucida.

Boston, as we all know, or at least in their own minds, is the "hub" of the universe...and so of course needs a great newspaper!

The products are going away, but the ideas (uses) will continue. Interesting ending with the comment about Polaroid artwork increasing in price. One of my previous Polaroid images went through an auction recently, and sold for nearly double the original asking price. Unfortunately, I didn't get any income out of that. The auction organizers mentioned that the process I used will not be possible in the future, which is basically true for that particular image. While I will likely be doing the odd Fuji FP100C manipulations, this direction will be different from my Polaroid manipulations, though still create unique one-off images.

It would be interesting if Fuji decided to make 20x24 Instant films, though tough to tell about that. Apparently there is quite a bit more interest in Fuji Instant materials, and not just from an artistic manipulation approach. Definitely a different future ahead, but more of change than any sort of ending.
