Latest from N&T is that the Lucky colour film will be priced around the same as Color Plus, no cheaper as they're putting a lot of hard work into it. The film will be 35mm initially with 120 likely later, and three sheet sizes. Possibility of 127 also.

Was going through my backing paper stash, found some 220 paper from Shanghai, very good quality, like Fuji paper. Maybe a bit thicker. Good printing which is a relief. Hopefully my 127 paper gets on soon, and I hope it’s of the same good quality.

I received my medium format Lucky SHD 400 rolls. They have Fuji backing paper.

Hmmm…the whole Fuji medium format setup—the tape on both ends of the paper, the plastic spools and the hole in the paper to catch on the spool—is the best 120 setup by far, so if they are finishing for lucky, that would be great, but they don’t even finish Acros II so it surprises me.

These Lucky SHD 400 rolls have repurposed backing paper from Fuji medium format rolls.

Or Kodak Gold 200, or Kodak Pro Image. The three Kodak films are on a similar price range. Matching Kodak prices is not what people is expecting, let's see...

In the UK, where N&T are based, Color Plus is about 20% cheaper than Gold, Ultramax or Pro Image. I believe the days of truly cheap colour film are over. But what they suggest is that the new Lucky film would cost about the same for a 36 exposure Lucky roll as a 24 exposure Gold roll...or similar to a 36 exposure Color Plus. Expecting true bargain prices is setting oneself up for disappointment.

regarding the rolls of SHD 400 I've used (I bought 10 for a look see... was less than $8 AUD a roll) the tape to affix the backing paper after it's been exposed has been dodgy. In fact the last roll I don't know what I did but I had trouble getting it to stick. Ended up putting a rubber band around it, was lucky I had one handy. The stuff I've got had no edge markings. I haven't observed any obvious defects but I haven't printed much yet.

Some news from Reflx Lab on their IG stories on Lucky, looks like the Lucky 200 Color film will be launching mid-July

He looks so sad! It's like the photographer said "Alright, I want you to look really gloomy. Think of the time when your first girlfriend broke up with you... Think of clubbing baby seals... Excellent! Now let's put the Sun behind you to make the scene extra gloomy."

That scan is very "neutral" but I bet a couple of minutes in one's editor of choice could have it looking quite nice. There's nothing inherently wrong with that photo. But seeing the negative would be useful of course.

Colour-wise it's a pretty boring photo but that's a look I like in sunny weather. Looks like good range of contrast even in the scan. I'd certainly be prepared to try a couple of rolls this summer.

But it can be made quite pleasing by spending a couple of minutes editing it. So I expect the film will be decent enough.
I guess the guy in the photo, who is said to be the engineer behind this film, just isn't the smiley type.

It probably doesn't help that the colour balance of the image seems skewed toward "cadaver". 😉

Nik & Trick Photography seem to think that Lucky C41 colour film is imminent.

It has already been launched at the Shanghai Photography Equipment Expo.
Apparently 45-50CNY(6.3-7 USD)
However, only a small quantity was released at that time because only a little was trial-produced. I was so excited that I missed out on the film stock and turned to buying stock of Lucky Company!
