That looks interesting. In fact, the whole Masterclass series looks interesting - a chance to learn something about a lot of subjects. $180 for a year's access doesn't sound too bad.

I read on another forum that the class was a waste of time and money. It was just her talking, mostly about herself.

Very, very possible.
What forum was it...did the other members agree.?
But keep in mind....Some people on some forums will swear the Earth is flat.

I believe it was RFF. I don't think many people, myself included, ponied up the $95, to listen to what she had to day. I'd buy a book of photographs instead, something I could return to.

IDK sometimes i think it is worth 100$ for someone
to tell you how to do something different than you
would do, to make photographs differently
than you would normally make them
and to hear what they have to say.

Sometimes is the operative word.

Learning something new is never a waste of time. I don't know about the rest of you but I am pretty sure she could teach me something new.

Now...where did I put that extra $100??

EDIT - Heck. Just listening to her talk couldn't hurt!

These master class videos are interesting... If I was interested in how Annie L did her stuff I would certainly think about paying to here her speak in person.. I am a bit unsure about charging people to listen
to one talk on a video... I have always felt that any information regarding photography should be given free,, one of the reasons I did all those Youtube Videos... I remember buying subscriptions to Fred Picker notes and his videos, before the days of the internet, but now there is so much info out there , this place included I would be hard pressed to pay .

OP, no never did.

If cheap, why not give it a go and write about it at your blog. You may learn something and have some ammunition for your blog. If you have no blog, start one. They are free and you can use it to share your work online.

I'm sure she will tell you a great photo needs a $50k budget for set design, numerous assistants to abuse and never pay your bill.
Sorry for the sarcasm but I have zero use for AL. Her best photos were made when it was said she was strung out on coke.

I agree with some thoughts here what AL became shadow of herself from RS time. As photographer.

And she shot herself in the foot with classes. Why? Because every public library in Canada has her DVD for decade+ now.
I watch it for free and her earlier times and experience covered in DVD were very educative. In terms of people's photography.

But these days and for sometime she seems to be digging some dough in Silicon Valley of Kardashianstan. Wealthy, but too glamorous with bad taste and disconnected from real world.
She became the past earlier what Hollywood is turning into now, the past which is getting abolished more and more.

There isn't any painless way of learning things, the money would be much better spent I.M.O. on books to study.

Anybody take her online class.?
Not that i have ever done something like this, but it sure seems like a reasonable price.......

https://www.masterclass.com/classes/annie-leibovitz-teaches-photography#/take_class?product_id=10
You can't learn anything from her wich you also can't teach yourself by yourself.
My assistant talked about an other assistant who worked with Anne.
His experience wasn't good. She obviously has a need of many assistences because of her imense wear of people.
I can't say anything bad about Anne, I know her photography from the 80th.
But I never would make my a slave. ........
And I never would give her any money.

"never make me a slave " sounds better ?
Best (perhaps) : " never let me make a slave" [her slave in charge of assistance]

If I ever become a good photographer - or become a photographer with good reputation (what is mostly not the same) - I will bring out a DVD too ....:D:laugh:
I still have a title : "Never be unsharp again" Issue 1 - 5 :D:laugh::D:D
with regards

It may be appropriate to actually take the class before you start running it down.

Oh well, so much for objectivity.

.....well said.!

Face it, good, very good, excellent photographers are a dime a dozen.
It is the Fame/Notoriety of Annie's career and photographs that set her apart from 99% of the excellent photographers on this Forum.
I am assuming the video is simply an explanation of how She Did what she did.
I take the term "Masterclass" with a grain of salt.
It may well be a marketing phrase...like "professional camera".

I'm thinking about joining. But I just don't have time to take the master class yet. I'm also interested in cooking so along with Annie Leibowitz's course, I'm also interested in Gordon Ramsey's, Thomas Keller and Wolfgang Puck's classes also. At $180 for the whole thing, it's a bargain. I

No Doubt -
Not sure these classes were ever designed as The Be All/End All of photography/cooking/woodwork etc etc. They are probably well produced and entertaining videos that give you an insight into the professional of note.
NOBODY knows Everything. You can always learn something new, or pick up a few spare weapons for your Photographic Arsenal.....
Maybe they reinforce some Tools/Knowledge you have been storing, and now you try them again after seeing them work for another pro.....stuff like that.

Part of mastery is knowing that one cannot know everything and everybody even masters should always expand their knowledge base.
