But do you know how the film was stored through out its life? A good assumption is that it was never refrigerated or frozen.

No idea how it was stored. Pretty much have no idea how any of the expired slide film I've bought online have been stored.

Here's a photo of the film below (bottom/2nd roll, top one is a roll of Kodachrome deved in B&W chems), it was Quick FIlm Color Slide 100 (rebadged Ferrania film) that expired in March 1989,

So then the fact that the film did not age well has nothing to do with the OP's question about the stability of freezing film.

I wouldn't worry about a sealed box of film taking a once a year brief vacation from the freezer. I was referring to thawing a box of film, opening it, shooting some promptly and getting decent results, but leaving some unthawed, using it months later, and perhaps getting disappointing results with that.
