And another jammed Kiev-88

Generally I do not let anyone fiddle with my cameras, but in the case of my son I thought "what the heck, he might just get into it anyway". Long story short, he fiddled with my Kiev-88 and got it jammed. The mirror is up, the shutter knob cannot move forward and cannot be pulled out. Is there a way to unblock it? Should I send it out for repair?

Sorry but that's the last camera you should ever give to anyone to just "fiddle with"!
I am very much a do it yourself sort of camera repair guy, but the Kiev 88 is not one to tinker with; send it out!
Next time, hand him an old SLR because the Kiev 88 can be wrecked so easily!

I just found about that interlock between a Hasy's body and its lens. Its Soviet copycat is a bit different. There is no such interlock between the camera and the lens. It is simpler and the only link between the camera and the body is just a metal thing pushing the aperture pin on the lens

I am too handy with camera repairs, but have never dealt with a camera like that. It might be a mater of a couple of minutes, or ,,, days and I haven't much time to spend like that these days. I do not give anything to anyone to fiddle with. It is just that sometimes my son leaves his xbox and snoops around my cameras. Silly me, I let him do so believing that sometime he might just get off that damn xbox thing. If it is something like 1, 2, 3, I will do it. Else I will send it for a repair.
I have also a Bronica S, but there is something about that brick that startles me like that.

Believe me, I am sympathetic to your situation. I am currently debating sending a Kiev 88 back to Ukraine for repairs because it no longer will cock the shutter when the advance lever is turned. I explored making the repairs myself until I read extensively on the gear train rebuilding process and knew it would be the final nail in the coffin for this particular camera if I made the attempt. I bought it with the knowledge it was broken before I read the literature...

Perhaps a simple Minolta SRT100 SLR or similar inexpensive but rugged camera, left in a conspicuous place might further your goals? They tend to be quite cheap and available, at least where I live...

You've read my mind! I already hid my beloved cameras and left in plain view just a few that I do not like much, they look awkward to him but it will cost me nothing to have them replaced. Lesson learned!
I'd better send it to Arax. I hate making things worse (another very good lesson learned through many years of repair failures)..
