Don't look at the 250mm Superachromat then: it's already pretty much diffraction limited wide open!

You need and deserve a new lens. You have spent your adult live earning money to buy things for others that they wanted or thought they needed. If you will use it and enjoy it, you should get it. We know you deserve it.
