That reminds me of the old Skoda Joke.

A man walks into a garage and asks have you a windscreen wiper for a Skoda, mechanic replies OK, seems a fair swap.

The Skoda factory in WWII made some of German's finest tanks other armoured vehicles, artillery and automatic weapons,. but I digress.

Wasn't the Skoda Rapid classed as the poor mans Porsche and didn't they design the first system where the trailing rear wheels followed the front wheels, or something like that?

Well I received my (sorry wifes) P30T complete with 28-80 zoom lens and have to say I like the camera, it all functions in auto and manual.

Not so sure on the operational quality of the lens, seems a bit loose,but for what I paid for the camera the lens is a good bonus.

The body is very light, but with that lump of a lens on it does make it heavy, just need a nice 28mm or 50mm lens.

To nit pick and it's no fault of the camera I'm left eye dominant and struggle just a little to read the viewfinder.

All in all a very nice little camera (for the wife ).

I'd say a Pentax ME of some kind.

I'd go with that (or an MX if you want a bit more adaptability). Solid little cameras (but not too heavy), with repairs and servicing still available. I knew a pro photographer who used MX's (and LX's) for many years.

Edit: sorry, hadn't read the whole thread...pleased that you like the P30T, I'm sure that you (and your wife) will enjoy it !

I'd vote for a Canon Rebel of some flavor if you're thinking SLR. They're very competent, but very simple. You can use it as a point-n-shoot, or fully manual, or somewhere in between. They're light weight, not bulky in the hand.

If you're open to a compact rangefinder of some kind, then why not a Contax TVS or T/T2/T3? Brilliant lens, fast, quiet, compact, without a lot of fussy controls. You get aperture or full auto.

I suppose it might depend on the 28/80 zoom but I have one on my MZ7 which was brand new with the camera and it has always felt loose but functions perfectly and has done since I got it many years ago. It is just the nature of the beast with the 28/80 and I don't think you have anything to worry about.
