Good morning. I inherited a Epson V750 and when powering on it makes a loud clicking noise and won’t leave its home position.

Ive trouble shot everything. I’ve found two broken pieces inside the unit, one being a small hook, see photo, but cannot find ANYWHERE where they could’ve broken off from and I’ve done exhaustive searches including under the scanning bar.

yes, I’ve of course checked the locking tabs. This issue is to do with the broken tab in the photo.

Any advice would be more than welcome. Thank you.

Do you have the manual?

Have you unlocked the transporting lock on the back?

Yes, the locking tabs were of course the first things I’ve checked. The issue lies with the broken tab. Thank you.

I had a similar issue with my 4990, in my case it was a hook inside the lid (transparency adapter) that snapped off. This held the far end of the transport belt for the light source carrier. The symptoms were the same as in your case. I'd start by checking whether the carriage (both in the lid and in the scanner proper) are still properly mounted and the drive belts are taut.

Thank you for taking the time.
Yes, both the carriages are properly seated and the bottom is secured on the rail and the belt. I did find where the black piece broke. Almost in the front middle of the bottom scanner it used to be in the front, middle. It would look like a fin.
But I’m confident that it broke as a result of pressure from not moving because that gray 🪝 is snapped off. I still can’t find where it snapped off.
