Does anyone know how long ammonium dichromate is good for once its mixed with water? Is it ok to make a large quantity (200 ml) and use it as needed or should you stick to smaller amounts that would be used over just a few days.

Is Potassium Dichromate shelf lfe the same?

Thanks

Bruce

I treat mixed ammonium dichromate like it's good forever and I've never had a problem. Store it in dark glass bottles as plastics may leach. I am using stocks up to 9% mixed years ago and I am getting consistent results.

I agree that ammonium and potassium dichromate solutions last virtually forever. But this is absolutely true only if you mix with distilled water as tap water may contain impurities that will make the solution go bad in a very short time. I store my dichromate solutions in clear glass bottlesn the dark and I have never had a solution go bad that was mixed in distilled water.

Thanks for the info. I have only used distilled water when preparing my ammonium dichromate.
