Man oh man, thought I had everything to make up some Amidol paper developer, and all the formulas call for citric acid. Drat, don't have any, and ordering will take another week. Wonder about lemon juice? Or, are there any Amidol print developer formulas that don't use critic acid?

You could leave it out, but try to use the developer within, say, two hours.

Here in my small city of 200,000 people, I can think of two sources: the local Indian grocery store, and a health food store. You should be able to find it easily.

Well, I am in a itty-bitty teeny-tiny community of less than 20,000. But we do have a wally-world stupid center with a big food section. This would be in canning supplies, I think.

Ha ha, I have to laugh. Here in middle-USA, we have archaic communities that are "DRY" and permit no alcohol or alcohol related sales, not even in restaurants. I live in such a community. Have to drive across the river to a larger community to purchase "adult" beverages. There used to be a home brewing store over there, but I think it is out-of-business. As a side note...it is perfectly legal for me to have "adult" beverages in my home, i just can't purchase them here.

Yep, but that is five or three hour drive-one way, respectively. i would not drive a whole day for citric acid, rather mail order, unless I can find locally.

I get my Citric Acid from The Chemistry Store:

Citric Acid 81007-2 2 lb Jar $3.00/lb $6.00 per Jar

Well, I just went ahead and ordered some from Photographers Formulary, as there was no home brewing store, and the big Discount food stores did not have "sour salt" or anything like that. I even tried the farmers co-op but they never heard of it.

It's fairly cheap, and I use such a small amount of it in general (I guess if I used a citric acid stop, I'd use more) that I have no reservations about using it occasionally to descale my espresso machine, which reminds me--if you're in a pinch until your order arrives from PF, you could see if your local grocery or cookware shop sells powder for descaling coffee makers, which is usually just citric acid, but it's much more expensive to buy it in little packets that way in the long run.
