Hi;

Not exactly contact print-related but many of you, no doubt, use Amidol.
I know of many sources in the US for this chemical but it (for reasons unknown to me) cannot be exported out of the US. As I live in Canada, I am therefore looking for a source here for me to try this well hyped chemical.

Anyone?

Art Craft is not in Canada but rather NY State. Michael Jacobson will however export Amidol. Atleast he's sent me some in Europe.

I think they have a redistribuition center in NY, but last time I e mailed them the address was in Canada.
Then again it might have been other people.

ah..ok...sorry, I must be confusing them with some other company. Tell you what though, in E bay there is a guy selling chemicals and I know he is located in Canada, sadly I dont remember his name. Or maybe you can go to Henry's and maybe they know where you can go.

To further confirm/clarify, I've send a request to Artcraft to see if Amidol can indeed be sent to me. Thanks for the quick replies folks.

Daniel

PS: If Amidol stains everything - trays, tongs, fingers - why then doens't it stain prints?

Amidol staining is similar to selenium stains, you don't really get stained unless an amidol solution drys up in an area...

Excellent Robert!

Thanks for the link to Fotochem! Never heard of them (him?) but that's exactly what I needed and only a couple hours from me to boot!

With his prices can't have an ad budget-) Actually I think he gets all the business he can handle from word of mouth. He also has sales on Ebay with the name of surebet2 [I think that's right] The stuff he puts on ebay is even cheaper then his normal prices.

Daniel,

As many have suggested, Artcraft is a good source for Amidol (and other 'raw' chemistry). The address confusion might be because Mike (originally from Canada) comes here often on business - it's not out of the question for him to bring an order with him and ship from here rather than from the U.S.

You may also want to check with Nymoc (416-465-1925) here in Toronto. They supply chemistry like pyrogallol, silver nitrate, etc but I don't know if they carry Amidol.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Roger...
