I am BA (hons) Photography student at the University of Central Lancashire as part of an assignment I have been asked to write a paper on an area of photography I wish to develop into. I am becoming increasingly fond of analog photography and in particular, alternative processes. I was wondering if there are any of you out there that could that I could meet offer me any advice on your area of photography, or heck even a skype?

Thanks,
Chloe Simmons

I hope someone offers to help you out. Welcome to APUG and welcome to "the light"!

Chloe-

Welcome to APUG. While I'm not local to you, I'd be happy to talk about alt process printing. Do you have any particular processes you are interested in? My first specialty and love is platinum/palladium (Pt/Pd), but I have also done some work in gum bichromate and wet plate collodion. I work in sizes ranging from 5x7 to 14x17. I got interested in these processes a few years ago when there was the big "film and paper are going away!" scare. Now that that question is pretty well resolved in the negative (film is NOT going away), I'm hooked on the processes because of what they can do. I also developed an interest because of my own appreciation for vintage photography ( I collect mostly cased tintypes and daguerreotypes, with some cartes de visite and larger albumen prints tossed in for good measure ). I'm a big admirer of the Pictorialists. You are fortunate that there are some very fine collections of 19th and early 20th century photography in the UK within a reasonable train ride from you to check out.
