Hey folks, I just got back from Clark University in Worcester (Wistah to us locals!! ) to view APUG's own Allen Rumme's photos. He has an exhibition there with his long time friend and photography pal Frank Armstrong.
The work was wonderful. Both Allen and Frank are quite accomplished photographers. The exhibit consisted of all B&W images from different sections of the US: landscapes, old abandoned buildings, graffiti and other subjects.
Print quality was excellent - especially when I put my glasses on to view them. :surprised:
I am really pleased to have met Allen in person. Those of you who know him from the Chatroom, know that Allen is a first rate gentleman. I hope that the next time he wanders out this way, we can get together for a photo outing.
Those of you in the New England region should make the trip to Worcester and Clark Univ to see the show. Here is some info on the show:
The Gallery is at 92 Downing St., Worcester, MA 01601
Phone # 508-793-7113
Exhibition dates... Feb 27 thru April 16
Exhibition times... Mon - Thurs 9am - 10pm; Fri 9am - 5pm; Sat 12 - 5pm and Sun 12 - 10pm
So get out there and support a fellow APUG'er!!

Gene,

Thanks for posting the mini-review! I am glad to finally be able to put a face with the name and to have talked for a while.

Ok, time to head to the airport.

Westawistah

May I recommend the www.boston-online.com site. This is from their
"Boston English" dictionary:

Westa Wistah

Terra incognita; beyond the bounds of civilization (some Bostonians will argue that that boundary is actually Rte. 128).

"I think a Bostonian would much rather go north or south than east to west. There is a sense that anything west of Rte. 495 needs a passport and currency control." -- John Mullin, director of the Center for Economic Development, UMass-Amherst, in the Boston Sunday Globe, 5/31/98.

I think a Bostonian would much rather go north or south than east to west. There is a sense that anything west of Rte. 495 needs a passport and currency control."

My supervisors would echo that one. When our lab moved to Sudbury, they thought it was western MA. Of course, the "413" is another state entirely.

Western Mass should cecede from the rest of the state and become the state of Quabbin and hold their drinking watger hostage. Then you will see Boston start paying attention to us "Backwoods'ers!!

errrrr - just kiddin' folks. Don't want my phone/e-mail tapped!

gene... errrrr, make that Roscoe.

BUMP!!
I just want to keep this thread fresh so that I can remind those in the New England region that this exhibit is worth a trip to Wister.

gene... I mean Roscoe

Bump with another parochial remark....

...did anybody besides me catch the current Mayor of Boston saying that Newton was "in the western part of the commonwealth"? Of course, this is the same mayor who said that they ought to install "mental detectors" at the public schools....

When in Wister... from I 290: Rte 9 west to Park St (Rte 12 South) left onto Park and go for about a mile or so.
Downing St is on the left at a traffic light. There is a resteraunt/bar with a big parking lot behind it at that corner - can't remember the name of resteraunt.
The Art Center (92 Downing St) is first building on the left - an old school house type building.
I hope this helps Bethe

BUMP!!
Hey get out to see Allen's photos!

gene

Bump... just keeping this alive - Allen's exhibit runs 'til April 16th. :D

gene

Gene, et al - to us westerners, all you folks east of the Mississippi talk funny.

I already congratulated Allen on the exhibit, so I won't be repetitiously redundant again.

Update

For those APUGers in Kansas, the exhibition will be moving to Emporia State University in Emporia, KS. The opening will be in mid-August. I will post more details as plans solidify.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Allen
