Rollei's are damn fine cameras regardless of the model. I have a 2.8C Rolleiflex and I love the thing to death. I'll never part with it! As great as they are though, just wait until the large format bug bites!

Yes they are. And near-indestructible, too.
I have ... well, I have more Rolleiflexes than
I am willing to admit in public. My current
user is a 2.8E. I had it on a rooftop, mounted
on a tripod. A friend backed into it and
knocked it over, hard. The tripod head busted.
The Rolleiflex took the blow in stride.
Don't worry about hurting the camera. In a
pinch, it even makes a serviceable weapon to
beat off muggers.
There's non-photographable weather? I can't imagine what that would be...
Rolleis are, indeed, built like tanks. I still use the Rolleicord that my dad gave me when I was about eight, reasoning that it was good for me to learn on an all-manual camera and that the camera could survive a small child's abuse. It does need a CLA (the slow speeds are too slow) but remains a superb functional camera.
They are addictive, and I'd be lying if I didn't say it lit me up to inherit a Rolleiflex to go with it, but it's not like there's anything really *lacking* in a 'cord. I think I could have gone a lifetime of shooting with that as my main camera and been OK.

I used to do that with my father's Rolleiflex when I was five. Don't tell anyone but I still do it now with my Rolleicord and I'm forty years older now!
The Rolleicord is great. I have a V. Don't think for a moment that it is in any way inferior to a Rolleiflex as most of them have great lenses. Mine is very sharp and would be the camera I would keep if I were only allowed to have one.
If anything, there is less to go wrong with a 'cord compared to a 'flex as the film wind mechanism is simpler and the shutter cocking mechanism is not linked to the winder.
Keep asking questions and show us some pictures!

Get the feel of the camera's working. Take nothing important for a while. Have fun.
Don't worry it takes me a couple of rolls of film to get used to any new camera – just have a blast.
I remember my first TLR, I like you kept looking though it– that lovely back to front world...
I now have two Rolleiflex cameras a T and a 3,5F both a joy to use...

England is rainy as I'm sure you all know...I don't want to get my Rollei wet...having said that I wouldn't care if our Olympus digi fell in a puddle, frankly can't stand the thing.
Call me old fashioned, I just don't get any joy out of it. There's something less exciting about a digital, I don't get off on that instant gratification i.e. seeing the shot in a back screen....what's the fun in that?
I'd rather wait for the local photography shop to develop my pics, gives one that 'kids at Christmas' feeling...
Further to that, the Rollei is like having a new best friend....honestly.
I've kept it by my side since it came in, and my second arrived in the post today....so now we have two and have planned an excursion for Saturday...to whereever the wind takes us.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures next week...
Took a couple today...just sluffing around the back yard...did this mostly to aclimate myself with my 'friend' RolleiPollei, as I've so lovingly named 'him'
Daft shots really...my holly bush, the wooden bench on my garden path..as I'd left some gloves on it and thought, 'Oooh if I take a picture of this I have 'evidence' that I actually do work in the garden and not just on javascript all day' (my father worries I've turned into some sort of geeky recluse ha ha ha)
My first camera was a kodak instamatic 110 got it for Christmas when I was 7 drove my family crazy with it....my mother still has all of the pictures I took with it though...bless her.

Actually the first of my Rolleis came with a lens shade which was way cool...
I love the picture - where did you take it?
I am not suggesting it but one my Rolleis face planted into the sand on an ocean beach from 5 feet up. I blew it off and went on using it no worse for the wear. Another of my Rolleis rode for 22 miles on top of my car on a highway. When I got where I was going it was still sitting there on top of the car.

I strongly urge you to refrain from looking through a VF while traversing stairs... especially downwardly. I don't recommend looking rearwardly through a mirror either. You're a daring woman, Jenny!!

It all worked fine until I tried to use it with a flsah in the evening. The flash fired as soon as I plugged it in as the contact was wet. When it dried out, it was fine.

who also shoots a Rolleiflex. So I am
able to indulge my Rolleiflex fetish
without hindrance. My only concern
is that she might make off with the
new acquisition when I'm not looking.
