If I don't have any specific purpose I will leave the heaviest and take the Rolliecord.

I don't particularly like weight, bulk and clutter so I might decide not to take a camera at all. I do not always use the car, and like many people in the UK I use trains and buses (especially in London) so 35mm is generally preferred. If hiking in the mountains I might take my MF 6x7 Fuji GF670 folder but not a 35mm camera as well. My Minox 35mm is handy but my Zeiss A 520 fits in my pocket for 6x4.5. So the answer is anything bulky, heavy and inconvenient gets left at home unless there is a good reason.

Since I have an assortment of formats, I tend not to grab the heavyweights - 8x10 v8 plus tripod weighs 29 pounds, without lens, filmholders, meter, filters, water, lunch, etc. etc..
Often it's been a Kiev 4 with a couple lenses, it carries well in an ots satchel and I like the results.

I leave my Olympus Stylus 35 cuz I can't stand using it. I have my pygmy man servant carry the rest. As long as he is cool with it.

For an unplanned out the door wander I would probably take the Rolleiflex or the Fuji GW670 II, all else left behind. 5x7 & 4x5 are definitely a planned outing; both Fuji cameras for higher altitude hiking or specific need; and the Bronica S2a I use for scouting location or when I just feel square. But the Fuji GSW 690 III & the Rolleiflex (or Bronica) make an interesting compositional adventure.

I leave the Hasselblad at home of course. Just kidding Sirius!

I leave the 8x10 and Stereo Realist at home. I only take them when I have plans to use them.

I'll take the C220f or the X100s with me. It all depends upon if I want to shoot film or digital. I don't own a cell phone and the X100s is easy for family snap shots to email to relatives.

Most likely to leave at home any of my 35mm cameras, followed by my 10x8 cameras and 7x5 cameras, then my 6x17 panoramic cameras.

Rarely go out shooting without a 5x4 camera, and always take a TLR - a Yashicamat or Rolleiflex.

Where am I going? What am I shooting? I wouldn't own multiple cameras if I only ever had a use for one of them. I could just as easily leave my heavy and bulky Sinar F1 or my pocket sized Hit camera. It depends on why I'm even reaching for a camera in the first place. Next week I'm doing some traveling for some landscape photography. I'm gonna take all of my 4x5's, medium formats, and DSLR. There will be some hiking. There will be some driving. What there won't be, is a situation where I'm okay with the lower resolution of 135 and 110 film so all of them will get left behind.

As a gear-collector more than a photographer, what goes out with me is usually the latest and greatest eBay find or newest bit of digital kit. I've been dealing with a wounded knee since April 2016, so of late my biggest SLR (RB67) simply doesn't get the love and usage it ought to.

The ones most likely left home are the ones not grabbed.

My SLR to be honest. I'm more likely to grab my TLR or packfilm polaroid, or others. Of all my film cameras, my SLR (F100/Pz-1) are the least differentiated from my DLRs, so less interesting to shoot with.

It's easier to say which one is going out the door, but I'm in the wrong forum for that. I own so many film cameras, more than likely I'd be leaving one of my 35mm cameras at home and grabbing one of my MF SLR's (6x6 or 6x7).

If I am just going out the door as in day to day non-photo job duties like errands, meeting for coffee, lunch, etc. then I take either a Leica M6 with a 35/2 or 35/1.4 or a Rolleiflex 2.8D.

And if I am mission specific like going out to shoot medium format, I will also bring the Leica and 35 or in the case of 4x5, either the Leica or the Rollei.

I try to use all my cameras. They are all different and all fun. I have them all on a table and pick a different one (almost) each time. My current favorites are the Xpan, Rolleiflex, or my girlfriend’s Leica M3+ Cron Rigid. When I deliberately go shooting, I exclusively use a Hasselblad 500. I don’t do large format, as my slide projector and enlarger cannot handle it.

The only camera which hasn’t seen any use in probably over 10 years is my old Nikon F90x which I bought 20 years ago. They go so cheap on the used market that selling it does not make sense. I prefer rangefinders with 35mm, though.

My decision is always based on two factors.

If it is a project, I take the camera I have been using for the project. That is usually a 35mm.
If I need a tripod, I figure I might as well use the 4x5 if I have to go through the grief of using the tripod.

I usually take a point and shoot too if I am using the 4x5. Typically that is a Contax TVS. If I am out running errands, I usually have a point and shoot in the car. I just grab whatever in that case. I have a bunch of them.

I've gotten to the point in my life where I just want things to be as simple as possible. Usually that means no camera bags, and quite often, just one lens and an extra roll of film. I make do and it works fine. I figure there are a bajillion good pictures that could be taken, so you don't need every lens to try to get them all. You just need a few.

I really don't go out and just shoot anymore. It's always a pretty well planned out event so I guess I don't grab any camera going out the door.

I really love the view camera workflow but I miss the ease of roll film and am considering an RZ to scratch that itch.

“Anything more than 500 yards from the car just isn’t photogenic.” – Edward Weston

For me, more like 50 metres. Backpacking days are long over.
So the car gets loaded up with MF stuff these days, the 35mm gets left at home.

If I am just grabbing a camera as i go out, it will be the camera with film in it. I try to cycle through my cameras but I try not to have film in too many at once (I have film in four, currently, and I have lost track of what film in which camera and what I have done with each). The one I want to finish as soon as is my Balda Baldinette which I started at a steampunk festival as I thought the design appropriate - that is the one I shall take out tomorrow.

I keep all my cameras loaded with film so any camera could be taken but the probably distribution of being taken is definitely not uniform when a project or vacation is not taken.
