hi

In a thread (I do not remember if it was here or another place) I saw someone mentioning that you theoretically could use any alkali fluid to develop in...
I tried it.

1) I took a Kodak Tri-X (because of it's forgiving nature  )
2) I developed it in the stuff you use to clean the drain in your sink and diluted it to suiting dilution.
3) I developed for 7 minutes. Stop bath and fixer as normally.

A quite funny thing to try out. A bit contrasty but that I'll correct next time.

Greetings Morten (who now cleans the drain with Rodinal)

Morten, that could have been me - and it would have been here.

If so, you missed the bit about "weak reducing agent"... It is normally necessary to add some kind of brown sludge to the alkali: Coffee, bog water, pyro or similar.

If you really got a film developed in dilute Plumbo (=Drano), I fear your tap water may be undrinkable...

Hmmm....it was quite contrasty, and the dilution was 1:400

Fer what its worth:
A couple of years ago, some student from the photography program at nearby Humber College, here in Toronto, got a front page headline by developing a roll of film in water taken directly from Lake Ontario

I remember that headline Tim but wasn't it over a extremely long developing time?

Do you, by any chance, have industrial waste or wastewater runoff that is getting into your local water supply?

Based on your test results; Whatever you do Morten - DON'T DRINK THE WATER!
