I have just signed up for this: http://www.dimbola.co.uk/albumen-printing-workshops.aspx

A two day albumen print making course taking place in the former home of Julia Margaret Cameron. There are a few places left but it's not the easiest of places to get to.

For those of you in the south of England, this might be offset by the fact that it's free - my favourite price!

Great !

May be You can call her spirit or ghost around a table also.

Steve, that would be worth a trip to the UK , is this a yearly event ?

If it is yearly then I think this will be the first year!

They have just started doing this sort of thing. A few months ago they ran a couple of basic black and white darkroom courses and more recently they had a Bohemian Beard Competition. Basically, anyone with a decent beard in the style of Lord Alfred Tennyson (who lived up the road) could enter and the eight winners were going to be photographed using wet plate collodion. Unfortunately I only heard about the photography session after it had happened.

Karen Grainger (who is running the workshops) has taken up a residency at Dimbola Lodge. I hope it is a long lasting arrangement.

This is certainly a step in the right direction as up until recently, they have only had digital workshops.

Steve and I met up on the workshop and I think I can speak for all who were there to say it was a very interesting and inspiring two days.

I know I will be making some albumen prints in the next few weeks, I have the negatives and luckily all the chemistry and know the ability :D

Ian

You can certainly speak for me in that respect.

I also intend to try this for myself - something I wouldn't have done if I hadn't attended the course.

My timescale will be a bit longer than Ian's as first of all I will need to get some negatives which I want to print with this process. Then I will need to save up my spare pennies to get some silver nitrate.

I think our two chickens are a bit worried about the number of eggs I need too!
