I am traveling to Alaska in July for two weeks and would be very grateful for any advise you can give on places to see etc. I am flying into Anchorage ,renting a car, and then returning to Anchorage to fly home.

I am an outdoors person and like hiking, biking, boating etc., and like to photograph Glaciers, Mountains, animals etc.

Considering I have just two weeks, how much can I realistically see. Driving long distances does not bother me so I intend to cover as much ground as possible. I am thinking of places like Denali N.P. for hiking and Kenai Fjords N.P. for photographing glaciers although if there are possible hikes onto glaciers, I would like that too. I don't think I will go for any hikes longer than one day as time will be short.

I am at the early stages of planning so hit me with any suggestions you have for a two week itinerary (accessible by car).

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Peter,
My other interest is mining and of course Alaska was the scene of probably the greatest gold rush in 1897/98. For a good read before you go, I'd recommend tracking down Pierre Berton's "Klondike - The Last Great Gold Rush". It might give you some ideas of places to visit, and even if it doesn't it's a great read. It's probably a good job you are happy about driving as when I looked at some places I might like to visit, the distances were by my standards enormous.
Hope you enjoy your trip,
Steve
