For those of you interested in playing with these formulas, here are some of the conversion factors you will need:

(roughly)
1 grain = 0.065 grams
1 US fluid ounce = 29.57 ml

Drams I can't remember of the top of my head but I think it just occurs once in the formula for printing on veneer wood.

So that would be 3.7ml to the dram.

See, I couldn't remember that it was 8. I thought it was 12 or something close like that!

And the cool thing is these formulas look like the ones that are pretty robust so you could say 4ml to the dram, 30ml to the oz and 0.07 grain to the gram and I bet it will all still work!

Except for the Silver Nitrate, Bromide and Iodide, the formula has some leeway for error in Gelatin, water and in the exactness of the timing. But, whatever error you make, make sure you repeat it next time or you will not get the same emulsion.

Wash in cold Distilled Water. Tap water has Iron salts and chlorine.

Use 250 BI Oxidized photo grade gelatin for making the emulsion.

the printing out emulsions
with eggwhites for glass for ages ..
just never had a chance to do it

I see no reference in the recipe to the need for any wetting agent. I keep reading conflicting advice...wetting agent mixed with the emulsion or not to aid with flow on plates?!! Thanks for the posting...as a first time emulsion user this is a godsend. rgds, K

Back in the mid 70's I used this emulsion quite a few times, I tried various methods of coating and it didn't need a wetting agent. It is a surprisingly good emulsion and capable of high quality results.

Thinking back I cut the volume of water, and seriously tweaked the first digestion & final ripening times/temperatures and the emulsion was transformed. I had done a lot of research first.
