I have started to ship film to myself whenever I fly. Has been only national flights so far, but has worked out. USPS General Mail has been a good thing while travelling within the US, ship something to yourself at a different post office.
Im hoping to plan a trip to photograph my area in Spain next year. Was planning to buy the film needed from B&H and have them deliver it to me out there, shipping is way cheaper for them than me doing it myself. Havent figured out what to do with the exposed sheets yet.

The only place I trust that I can get a hand check is US airports. Even in a very busy terminal at JFK they were happy to hand check. So my recent trip to Spain, I brought my own film, but at the end of the trip I shipped all the film home via DHL. I could have carried it home becuase Madrid didn't have CT scanners, but I didn't know. I do worry that some countries have xrays when passing through customs before being allowed in the the country. (Russia had this and Mexico had it as well, but in both cases it was just normal xrays so it hasn't been a problem.)
