I saw a photo of Scala film taken at this year's PMA. Anyone know much about this PMA version? Old stock? Released by someone else under Agfa's name? Cruel joke?

Agfa Scala is still for sale, as well as APX-100 & APX-400. These are remaining stock from the last production run of 2005.

Rollei Superpan 200 is in fact the same as Scala, but with increased infrared sensitivity (up to 750 nm) and confectioned in 35 mm. It is freshly made by Agfa-Gevaert in Mortsel (Belgium) as Aviphot PAN 200, a made for industrial and aerial photography.

Re: Agfa Scala

As far, as I know several agfa films are now manufactured from/for Lupus Imaging & Media, Köln, Germany. This includes Vista, CTprecisa, Scala and APX films.

at least this is what Dead Link Removed say.

Interesting information and site. Do you know who is manufacturing Agfa Vista for Lupus Imaging? The site actually says very little about manufacture and can be read as the reader wants to read it. This always worries me. I suspect that the truth is that Lupus have secured a large stocks of the last batch of Agfa films. On the English language site it simply advises consumers to go to their stockists whoever that might be. I haven't seen any Agfa Vista in any stockists for several years. I think this is just a holding position and means nothing. Lupus will not try to set up a distribution network with the likes of say Jessops or others in the U.K. It then goes on to say that it can be ordered online in a few weeks time. This is key. Why should it go to the trouble of a distribution network in the U.K. when it can sell via an online system and where the quantities involved may be relatively large but are limited and finite.

It all suggests to me that Lupus have got hold of large stocks of old film and need time to set up the website to sell. Once sold it( Lupus) or the Agfa film will mysteriously then disappear.

I am not saying that Lupus isn't genuine. I just don't think we are getting the full story.

AGFA must have been over producing like mad before they stopped, no wonder they went under!

I don't see any hint for this.
To the contrary the Leverkusen plant reduced their production severely due to decreasing sales.

Bear in mind that the coating capacity of just one! coating machine was 850 million type135 films per year. Though the actual output was only a few million. Those machines are run most effectively in large batches. Bear also in mind that for certain coatings (I don't know about the actual Agfa procedures) storing of the coated film is neccessary. I assume that this explains why they had some stock.

They were coating roughly 1m wide and 4000m long. Calculate yourself for how long you could get supplied by a single roll.

...Is ultra 100 still around?

There is still some Ultra 100 on ebay, most of it Chinese, but the same emulsion batch as the last stuff could find sold in Canada (Henry's). All from the last run. Goes for $5.10 US a roll plus shipping.
