AGFA Photo Vista Plus 200

Has anyone else had problems with the AGFA Photo Vista Plus 200 24 exposure film? I bought two rolls for a test. I am looking for an economical color film that comes in 36 exposure rolls. I bought two 24 exposure rolls to try. I loaded the film into my Minolta Maxxum 7 without problems. The first roll stopped shooting on exposure 12. The camera indicated film end. I rewound the film then reloaded it. On the Maxxum 7 I can advance the film to whatever exposure needed. I advanced the film to exposure 13 and continued shooting without incident. The film rewound correctly so I thought it was a fluke. When I loaded and shot the second roll the exact same thing happened. The same remedy worked and the film rewound when finished. When I developed the film using the Unicolor kit I noticed some residue on the sprocket holes of the second film. It didn't appear to be emulsion. Both films processed and scanned OK. The film base appears to be FujiColor 200 the same as I normally shoot. I checked the DX coding on the canisters and they appeared to match the Fuji 200 code so I don't think the DX coding was wrong on the cassette. Any one else seen issues?

Sounds like a camera issue. It is rebadged Fuji it says made in Japan somewhere. I use it as it's £1 at Poundland.

Have you checked the electrical coding at your cassette? Does it indicate 24ex. ?

In case it does there would be indeed a fault your camera.

Not a single issue with regular branded Fuji or Kodak after more than 40 rolls of film. This only happened when using the two rolls of AGFA.

The DX coding appears to be the same on the cassettes. Not sure what is causing the problem. I find it hard to believe the camera would stop at exactly the same frame on two different cassettes. I did not use these rolls consecutively. The rolls of Fuji in between the AGFA worked fine.

This residue was on the film as well as the long scratch through the sprockets. There were also scratches on the other film in the center of the film. Not present on any other film I have used.

I've gone through quite a few rolls of this with no difficulty, in a variety of compact and SLR cameras. Never had a problem with it. It's probably the same stuff, bought a brick of it in Dealz (Irish equivalent to poundland I guess)

It really does look like you had some grit or something in the camera at the time you shot the two films.

I used to buy Vista 200 at a very reasonable price but stopped using it because of doubtful conditions it had been kept in before being sold. There were signs that it had been stored near a heat source and there were obvious signs og colour change in diagonal strips accross the frames.

I still use the 36 Exp and so far have not had any problems.

I use a lot of Poundland Agfa Vista film - probably around 30 cassettes a year over several years. I have never had any problems with it. All my cameras have manual film advance and I get 26 exposures from each cassette. If your camera is stopping at 13 exposures, it has to be the camera.

From the looks of the scratches on that neg, I'd say you have a camera issue. Inspect it closely inside and ck for any sort of dirt or foreign debris that may be lodged in there or floating around.

Just gotta chime in and say I love Vista Plus. I was also looking for a cheap film and found Agfa, always had amazing results. I prefer Kodak Gold, but nice colors on Vista for sure. No issues like this.

May be the camera, I had a problem with my 9xi going into rewind before the end of the roll. I reloaded ran up to the next frame and had no problem. Since then the camera has run to the end of the roll with no problems.

Could it be a scratch on the cassette causing the camera to misread the length code and to think it was a 12 exposure roll?
