The former Agfa company's equipment & factories have gone to new owners. They can't be pulled back into one without considerable re-investment and takeovers.

This is somewhat off topic but I'm just curious: Are the film/paper coating machines useful for something else than photographic materials?

That is THE question at those plants.

The main advantage of those machines together with the expertise of the people behind them is precision multilayer coating.

A glimpse of new ideas can be found at the site of Inoviscoat.de

(They once had some ideas in the field of life-sciences. Their old website has gone though.)

Wasn't the old Polaroid factory converted to some type of solar product?

The Polaroid multilayer coating department in New Bedford was sold and turmed into a contract coating facility.

They did not survive...

What I called above in post 22 a smaller photofinisher is not even yet a photofinisher in the actual meaning.

AgfaPhoto Holding gave their brand name to a digital printing company specialized in custom printings in the world of travel companies.
They call that new brand name essential for their start as newcomer into the world of photofinishing aimed at the private customer.

As the majority of amateur photos, especially those to end as prints, are related to holidays their connection to that sector is considered beneficial.

The idea of linking to tourism is not new. A photofinisher once established in the remains of Orwo tried this by offering film processing/printing already in the plane and having films collected on board.

So this all is seemingly just another brand licensing deal.

Inoviscoat (a custom coater) bought a production coating line and a test emulsionmaking/coating device out of the equipment of the Agfa Leverkusen plant.

Maybe Fotoimpex bought a test coater too.

Anyway, in this thread constantly things are mixed up.
This whole thread is about a tempest in a teapot.

Agreed, we have had a lot of threads with supposed "information" about new or discontinued products, which have eventually proved to be inaccurate, incomplete or even nothing but rumors.

I remember the APUG visit to HARMAN/Ilford in 2007. Test runs were being done with a very mean machine from Agfa: a machine punching the sprocket holes in 35mm film. It was an amazing piece of machinery, a beast with many, many sharp teeth.

So, at least that machine is gone from Agfa.
