I'm working on a 4x5 afghan box. Plan to use Harman Direct Positive Paper to eliminate negatives. Tube developers would probably be best with 4x5s as to keep the camera's dimensions down.

Used, broken bellowed, or unrepairable, crown graphics are best for this. You can find a busted 4x5 for cheap on ebay. I would just make sure it has a 4x5 back and ground glass.

Great site.
Upon entering that site I was irritated about the designation "box camera", as another type of camera is typically described by that. But to the uninitiated that designation surely will seem very apt, so I think it is well chosen.

They use basically identical cameras in Cuba, India, and I am sure many other places too. Box camera does indeed seem to be a misnomer, since these are really more akin to a tin type camera than to a box camera. The images I have seen elsewhere seem to show old Kodak folders as being the basis for the picture taking part of the machine, certainly there are plenty of 116 and 122 folders out there for cheap that could easily be adapted to this sort of thing.

Chris Wroblewski published a fantastic book on street photographers from around the world a few years ago called "Smudgers" (apparently it's what the English used to call street photographers). The book is long out of print, but Chrish has just released a E Book for 5 Euro. If you can't get hold of the book (I was lucky enough to fluke one) then I'd recomment getting the E book..

If these are the same people who peddled their wares on Kickstarter I sent them $25 and have been stiffed. The Kickstarter Site Klowns could care less and these people refuse to give me what they promised, or to reply to my emails or anythng.
