Is the Sulphuric Acid absolutely necessary? In my perusal of other threads I've come across a formula that eliminates the acid.

I've only used the sulphuric formula so I couldn't say. I made a gallon of stock solution and it's lasted a year, still very effective.

Though I realized something kind of stupid - I keep it in a gallon jug that held windshield washer fluid. I hope none of my kids finds it and fills up their reservoir. (Exactly the same blue color...)
