Yesterdays film test (4 sheets; FP4+; 5x7) using DS-12 stock. The the attached pdf file contains a plot of the film curves.

I use open 3"x6" PVC tubes in 11x14" trays with 1500ml of developer - constant agitation (rolling gently back and forth).

For 1500ml of stock :

H2O 1125ml

Metol .6g (12ml 5% solu.)

Ascorbic acid 1.5g (1/4tsp)

NaSulfite (A) 30g (2Tbs+.5tsp)

Salicylic acid .3g (1/8tsp)

Triethanolamine 99% 3ml

NaCarbonate (mono) 3g (1/2tsp)

H2O to make 1500ml

Thanks, that's interesting. I wonder why the ISO is 160 on the lower curves. Seems like the fog may be rather high?

Adjusted curves for DS-12 film test

Is anyone using this recipe or something similar regularly?

The "PSP" has been adjusted the so the ISO numbers are closer to actual; (i use 100 on my meter). The development time chart is attached for developing to average G.

I will develop 4 sheets of pictures i shot yesterday in this DS-12 recipe and will report back.

I tested a couple vit. C developers that I think were a bit more amateur: Mocon X, which had low activity and LSD-6 which had high activity. I could have diluted the LSD-6 and tested it further. The first one was probably usable at higher times, but it had a pronounced shoulder. Both had higher b+f than ID-11 or HC110 which seems consistent with your results with DS-12. I was going to try DS-12 and believe it would be one of the better ones.
I was plotting curves using Axum scientific graphing package, before I found Winplotter. I could plot one curve consisting of multiple step wedge exposures to see shoulders. Winplotter unfortunately doesn't seem to be able to do that. The ES offset applies to everything and there is no way to make one curve consisting of multiple 21 step exposures, so I can't display the Mocon-X shoulder with Winplotter.

I've used DS-12 in the past, mostly last year. I liked it 1+1 with Pan F+ 35mm and 3 min. agitations. I tried it on fp4+ 35mm and it was ok, but I didn't continue to use it with fp4+. I also tried it with Acros 120 and liked it, mostly 2+1 or 1+1 and 3 min. agitations. Bottom line, I ended up using DS-10 because I got better results. I did play around a little with the formula by sub. .8g of p-aminophenol in place of the .4g of metol per 1L and I did like what I saw with fp4+ in 35mm, but I have not continued to use it. One advantage is that you can mix it 5x and it keeps well once mixed. YMMV

Thanks for the feed back. I am interested in the plotting software you are using before Winplotter. Hope to soup 4 negs in DS-12 in the next couple of days; developed to avg G of .5 and will post results.

Thank you for the feed back. DS-10 is on my list to try and i will post my results. FX-55 is another one that interests me. Xtol 1+1 has been working pretty well for me.

Yes, Xtol 1+1 is great. When there was a Xtol scare some time back, I started mixing DS-10 as a replacement and I really liked it (it does gives finer grain prob. because of lower ph and the TEA), but after a period of experimentation, I have sort of settled on using two developers: Xtol/DS-10 for a lot of roll film and 400 speed, and then some version of Pyrocat for 4x5 and Acros/TMX and a few other med. to slow films. When I wanted high acutance, I ended up grabbing the Pyrocat and not the DS-12 bottle.

Correction to recipe for DS-12

I developed 4 sheets of FP4+ (5x7) in this recipe today; they look good wet. The recipe has been corrected from the original post.

For 1500ml of stock :

H2O 1125ml

Metol .6g (1/4 tsp)

Ascorbic acid 1.5g (1/4tsp)

NaSulfite (A) 30g (1Tbs+.5tsp)

Salicylic acid .3g (1/8tsp)

Triethanolamine 99% 3ml

NaCarbonate (mono) 3g (1/2tsp)

H2O to make 1500ml

DS-12 negative and positive scan

The files attached are the result from DS-12 stock w/FP4+; souped yesterday.+
It is difficult to get good results from my inexpensive (old) flat bed scanner.

small update, I just found some old DS-12 mixed 5x and stored in glass from last April and tested it. All good: used the same times/temp/film and got similar results!
