Looking for Adox Silvermax in the NYC metro, ideally somewhere in the five boroughs. I have been on a notification list for this stuff via BH for three months now and I'm not optimistic at this point.

I try to avoid Freestyle in a pinch due to shipping costs and it being pretty much as far away as possible from NYC. UPS from California + 35mm film == me getting ripped off on shipping.

Suggestions? I'll buy quantity if need be.

Thanks,
FO

I believe that somewhere I read that Freestyle is the US distributor for Adox products. If you look in the APUG Partner Forums under Adox, there is a comment similar to yours regarding prices/Freestyle/shipping. Apparently you can purchase Adox products directly from their European distributor. Their website address is shown in various threads. To be economically feasible, due to shipping costs, you would likely have to buy in quantity. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll check in with Adox in Europe and see what their pricing is.

You can buy direct from Fotoimpex, but shipping will be much more than Freestyle. Here on the east coast the shipping time from the UK is not bad, sometimes a couple of days. The cost is usually much more than domestic shipping, but the price of the goods may make up for that.

Bdial,

Exactly. The film is much less in Europe (> 50%) but the shipping needs to be low enough to average out the cost to still make it affordable.

Sometimes that works out, and I have no reservations ordering from the UK, though I've not bought much film directly from the UK or EU.
But, I buy bicycle parts somewhat routinely from Ireland, and have bought motorcycle parts from England, in both cases at prices much lower than what's available from N.A. suppliers for the same goods, including shipping.
In NYC you might be able to get your film faster from the UK than it would take from LA.

Let us know how it works out!

Could end up being six of one, half dozen of the other. I may end up buying quantity for myself and my students. There's no reason for these U.S. dealers to charge so much for the film. They are marking it up 100% or more (RETAIL) per roll and that's robbery.

Last time I checked, it is cheaper to buy from Maco Direct than from Fotoimpex (Adox's own in-house shop) - applicable only if you buy a lot. But I guess you'll have to check the total price with your post code. I tend to buy my film stocks from Maco, like there RPX 25 and 400, and retro 80s too.

Silvermax 100 is a lovely film. I only used one roll of it so far with HC-110, and like the output. Shame it's not (&_will not be, according to Adox site,) available in 120. I wish Adox could offer it and other films in 25/50/100 feet long roll to minimise the cost. Oh well!

Bests,

shipping from germany to the US is not that bad. just buy a little more. I just bought a bunch of RR80s from maco in germany. shipping was $30. but when you consider, like monetioned above, the film is more than 50% less than freestyle and B&H it makes it a great deal. Freestyla and B&H charge $99 for a bulk roll of rollei retro 80s. maco charges $39. you do not pay the VAT tax and dont forget that, yes i factored in the currency xchange rate. so add the $30 shgipping and it comes to $69. and the film i just got has 2 more years on the exp date than the US film. so I bought 4 bulk rolls and it brings the cost down. you get the point.

yes it takes 2 weeks to get the film but I cant wait considering the major cost savings. to bad silvermax is not available in bulk rolls.

Looks like we all agree. I ordered from Silverprint- They were very very nice and gave me a good discount. I'm very pleased.
