Professional photographer Lina Bessonova has tested the new ADOX SCALA Kit for BW reversal processing at home.
Please have a look at this very detailed review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oSLF_ega6M

Interesting video and thanks for sharing. Looking at the beautiful slides Lina showed (some of which are showcased on the box of the reversal kit), I'm sure good times are here for reversal enthusiasts.

While the video is about slide making, it was quite exciting to see reversal prints being talked about and shown in this video. I hope Lina will make a more detailed video on reversal prints in the near future for the benefit of reversal enthusiasts.

A direct reversal paper would be nice (Cibachrome for B&W). There are some out there- not sure how good they are, but I suspect you are talking something different (paper in camera?).

In Lina's video, she talks about how she enlarged a slide on photographic paper (not direct positive paper) and reversal processed it using Adox's kit to get a positive print of the slide.

Paper in camera is fun too and I do it often.

I recall that. The reason I mentioned direct positive is it seems, well more direct, but not sure if the quality is the same.

A disclosure of sorts, she is married to the Adox CEO, so there might be a little bias, no? Not saying there is or there isn't, just saying...

Of course there is. Like in 99% of youtube "review" videos we see. If the youtuber wants to get money from companies, she/he needs to show things in positive light, otherwise companies stop the co-operation. You don't need to be married, even only money-relation is enough to smile and keep mouth shut.

She does several times say "we did" and "our designers", etc., so there is no secret of her relationship to the company in the video.

Hey @Team ADOX do you think it is possible to reverse develop Foma liquid emulsion glass plates with this?

Now THAT would be cool! I know there's work on Ambrotype developers for the J Lane plates (which would work for Foma I would assume too). The FF Monobath 1 is the current way but someone on J Lane's FB group is working on a dedicated dev (I'm not on FB so can't speak more to that but it's in the works!)

I hadn't though of using Adox reversal chems though, that could be really awesome if I can get it to work reliably "in the field" - my idea is to try and do portraits on 5x7 on dry plates for some local market days in some of the touristy places I'm close to. I think it could work well for the vibe they're going for but kinda need to end up with a positive or ambrotype for it to make any sense.

We have not done such tests. And we cannot do such tests in the future.
Because as we have already explained here several times, we are a very small kind of "start-up" company with limited resources. We simply don't have the resources to test every single small niche product on the market. It is not possible. If we want to be successful in the long run, we have to focus on the most important priorities.
And because of the pandemic running the business is generally even much more difficult, because of the lockdown, and because of shortages and problems in the supply chains and in shipping.
Thanks for your understanding.

If you are so much interested in reversal processing of Foma liquid emulsion glass plates with the ADOX SCALA reversal kit, just try it. Make some tests. And feel free to share your results here on photrio. We would at least not generally exclude that it is possible.

No worries really! Nobody is expecting to do test based someone asking questions in the internetz. You are doing more than fine and get good PR being here and listening our thoughts!

This was the answer I was hoping for, that there is possibility that it works. I need to try it. I will be ordering stuff from you soon.

Ilford direct Positive is a desensitized paper yielding a positive image in a regular b/w process whereas Cibachrome is a silver dye bleach process.

Yes - I didn't mean to imply they were the same (the Silver Dye Bleach process bleach would likely turn FB base into mush), just that DPP can be used to print directly from transparency.

Lina already experimented with our new ADOX POLYWARMTONE emulsion hardened with ADOX EMH-1 and it worked.

Ok, thanks for the info. I also noticed that you had new emulsion product when browsing Fotoimpex.

You can be relaxed concerning this topic. I've talked to her, know her approach. Her "big love" in photography is making BW prints. And she has not been much into using reversal film in the past.
But when she tried the SCALA films and the new kit, she was very surprised by the results. Positively surprised, she really likes the results. It is a very different look and different, unique character of BW slides. And a very nice addition to BW prints.
If she would not like the results, she would not have made this video. Definitely. If you look at her other videos, they are all exclusively about methods and products she has intensively tested by herself, and which she is using by herself because she is satisfied by the results.
Her youtube channel is a hobby for her. Not her income source. With such a small channel (in youtube terms) the work you are putting into such a review video is costing you much, much more then the few Cents you may get from youtoube (via their general advertizing income programme). There are lots of articles, reports and also youtube videos about the topic "making money via youtube". Therefore it is quite transparent and easy to see how much subscribers and regular followers and clicks you need to generate a noteworthy income by a youtube channel (and having at least a kind of compensation for your work you have put into your videos). And it is really a lot that you need, in the higher 6-digit number area before it starts to be interesting.

Best regards,
Henning
