I also live in Canada where Mark is, except Im in BC. I find DHL does in fact tack on a "clearance fee" for shipments, where there really is no duty value. And its usually around 30 bucks Canadian. Not cheap when you already spent $110 on 3 rolls of film plus DHL shipping to Canada (Color Mission 200). This makes buying film from them extremely expensive. If it was Canada Post delivering it, I wouldnt get charged ANY duty, because the value is too low (for those 3 rolls). I found another source for Color Mission, and they allowed orders in multiples of 5, so I ended up spending the same amount of money for 5 rolls than I paid for 3 for FotoImpex.

I noted an article last week in the Business press that the US has set the "deminimus" rate for provate shipments at 800 dollars US, so a shipment of a few rolls of film would pass as free. unfortunatly (because of the GST, our version of VAT) the deminimus level is closer to 100 dollars CDN. I guess that DHL is not charging the fee to US buyers who are under the limit. (and making it up here in Canada)

Anyone else have any more info on this?
Tried to send a message to fotoimpex but have not yet received a reply.
Looking for the Adox MCP 312 RC papers, but fotoimpex and macodirect doesn't have any of those in stock.
They seem to have FB Adox papers in stock though........alas....

Oh crap........(from adox.de), really??

That's the official explanation, I have done a search about the discussion. TLDR the situation for paper is that they would need more economies of scale in the current market, even if they have great emulsions such as MCC-MCP and Polywarmtone available. However, their set up is working well for film and as we have recently seen, they completed a major milestone in fixing the 120 finishing line. ADOX CHS100II 120 is not yet so available at other retailers, and looking forward to it being in stock in more places out of Fotoimpex.

Both Freestyle and Adorama have no Rodinal. Adorama says they expect it in Feb. '24. Sad, it's my standard low speed developer.

Shipping would probably be too much and if it's stock in Europe, why not big stores like Adorama and Freestyle?

Because fotoimpex is basically adox, so they have it on stock first, to the US it needs to ship...

Freestyle gets its ADOX products via slow boat, a path that causes long periods of out-of-stock conditions. Ordering direct from FOTOIMPEX to the U.S. gets customers express delivery via DHL, which has been running around four days for me lately. Depending on the nature of what's ordered (liquids are heavier, powders and 35mm film lighter, if one puts enough items in a purchase, the shipping cost plus VAT-free price can end up being comparable to what U.S. retailers charge.

The bottom line is that buyers pay for shipping ADOX products to the U.S. one way or another. Time or money.

Too bad, unfortunately, their papers longevity seems to be very very short.
I had two boxes of the 312 MCP, but they were all fogged when i tried them out here the other day, one box of nearly 40 papers was a gonner.

Oh well, I will do some Fomaspeed until Adox is (hopefully) able to sort things out.

How old was your paper?

I take back the "very short" part of my answer, I realize that time goes faster as you get older
Paper is definitely more than 3 years and was stored mostly in room-temp.
However, strangely, all my foma and Ilford papers are still fine, the Adox ones are all dead (and they were all bought at the same time +-1 year).

I have read somewhere that the statement Adox have on the back of the box really is more or less how it is in reality as well, but it is a bit surprising, seeing how well Foma and Ilford lasts, even under so-so storage.

My Slavich papers are also alive and kicking.
