Does anyone know what is going on with Adox? Their website doesn't seem to have had any update for half a year or so and I am hoping their efforts to move production to more viable sites for the MCC paper and the long awaited Polywarmtone revamp are going well. I signed up for the newsletter but have not received anything yet nor can I see any contact details on the site or I would have asked there. I see fotoimpex has no stock of any paper at all though one variety (the silver chloride contact print paper) may be coming later this month. I take this as a hopeful sign but would love more concrete information if anyone can share it.
Otherwise it looks like Ilford will become a monopoly in the near future and with two price rises this year it's worrying...

Adox has a partner forum on this site; perhaps you should ask them.

AFAIK they are still working on it. My guess is the pandemic complicated getting the Marly plant online and doing the paper run. They released newly manufactured CHS II films in 35mm this summer. Here's an interesting tour of the Marly plant from 1 year ago.

It may be that you mention Fotoimpex as having no paper simply as a worrying sign but if you are looking for paper then the first U.K. stockist I checked, namely Agphotographic has both MCC and MCP in various sizes in stock

That sounds good - the update of 1st Nov indicating test runs are underway. Not interested personally in Lupex and wonder why that is coming first as it seems very niche but must be for technical reasons...In any event I will stand by and hope the MCC and MCP resurface soon and hopefully not hugely more expensive than Ilford's already pricey options this time...

My apologies The initial part of the Agphotographic website listed it and I stopped there but having gone further it does then say out of stock I had expected this to be said on the opening stage of its website about Adox paper

No problem! I have been burrowing so long in my darkroom using up very old stock that it just occurred to me that going forward might not be so easy: Ilford stopped production for a while during the first lockdown and as we enter a new one there are not many options should supplies run out and that is in UK. The rest of the world would seem to be in a worse position as far as I can tell...

It might depend on which stockist you use. The out of stock prices of 5x7 MCC at AgPhotographic are considerably more that the comparable Ilford Classic FB 5x7 so at least at Ag, Ilford is considerably cheaper than Adox was The gap will grow if Adox has to raise prices due to its having to take back that stage of production that was once contracted out

It's a single chloride emulsion, in a single emulsion layer + topcoat structure. MCC & Polywarmtone have multiple emulsion, multilayer coating packages that are much more time consuming to implement and get working according to design spec (as you'll have seen from Adox's documentation of the Polywarmtone work).

That's true. I was looking around and trying to find the best possible pricing for Foma, Slavich and other alternatives and they are all similarly high. I wonder if they all use the same expensive base as colour paper seems to be a lot cheaper as there is I think still a range of options there with competition keeping prices lower.

That makes sense but on the other hand it must be a much much smaller market I would have thought. Then again it would appear to all be for a very small market these days...

If they're using the Marly machine (as opposed to the Bad Saarow one, if it's been commissioned yet), they can coat up to about 21" width, but are restricted to about the same minimum coated length as most of the bigger coating machines (1600m and upwards) - thus their minimum batch will be about 1/2-1/3 of the bigger machines' absolute minimum coating quantity - enabling both the coating of more minority interest materials, and more frequent coating events of more popular materials (better for maintaining consistent product characteristics).

Mirko's post says test runs are happening for MCC in Bad Saarow, I assume on the ex-Agfa Leverkusen equipmen they installed. I would infer that the intention is to make that the first big run from the new plant. This makes sense since MCC should be a larger seller.

Yes I hope so! I inferred from the Fotoimpex site that if all goes smoothly they will have stock of some papers by the end of this month. They should know as I imagine they are the prime outlet for Adox paper globally...

Here is all you ever wanted to know but never dared to ask Mirko...
