I found the said times a little long and I also tried the developer slightly more dilute. I liked the tonal range better when it was diluted more, but not the grain. I suppose I could have played around with it more, but couldn't really see any advantage over my trusty Xtol-R. FX-37 is a good developer, but so are a lot of other developers. I just want FX-39II for Adox HR-50 and maybe some Acros II I have left. Oh, I have two 120 rolls of PanF+ I'd like to run it in also just to see what the combination can do.
FWIW, John - I tested my first roll of HR-50 last week, paired with an IR filter and developed in FX-39 for Adox's recommended time and the negatives were practically unusable. Too dense in the highlights, compressed high values (lacking detail) and the shadows were empty blackness.
I've seen other people's images from HR-50 and they looked decent, so I think my use of an IR filter and (probably) overdeveloping the film made a mess of things. It's very sharp and practically grainless, I will give it that, but I didn't like the tonal rendering whatsoever. Maybe that was the IR filter's fault, I don't know.

This is the only test image from the roll that I actually did anything with. (difficult light, poor choice of subject matter also contributed to an unsatisfactory result)

Henning Serger posted on a thread about HR-50 sometime back and stated he used FX-39II with HR-50 and PanF+ and it worked very well with both films.
Of course I might be 6' under by the time FX-39II is in stock again. Yup, just checked Freestyle and it's been pushed back to Mar. 25th now. My patients is running real thin.

Just now checked freestyle's site and now they say FX-39II is expected Mar 21. This morning it was Mar 25. Must be they contacted Adox or whomever and got an update of Mar 21. Crazy!

That sounds more like they received an update on when the boat was going to be clearing customs and offloading .

Exactly, probably just like we get tracking updates on online orders. Maybe like it just cleared customs and is on its way to the next location type thing.

If you dont feel like waiting for Freestyle to get it in stock, Cinestill's site is showing that they have the 100ml ($6.99) & 500ml ($11.49) in stock:

Holy cow, Batman! I was on their site several times in the past couple of months and never remembers seeing that. I can't believe I missed it. When I last checked their site, which was just a few days ago, it said "out of stock" and they had an expected arrival date. I'm starting to think Adox rushed a shipment of the smaller size and they just stocked it. I'd bet that Freestyle will also show stock of the smaller size. Adox might not have had a large enough quantity of the developer made to fill orders for both sizes and figured the smaller size would at least be a stopgap until a they made more of the developer. This is all speculation and really doesn't matter to me since I can at least get my hands on some. Or at least I think I can if their site is up to date and true.

I just ordered a 500ml bottle of FX-39II from cinestill, we'll see if I get it I would imagine that I will. I shot my first rolls of HR-50 and I will try it with HC-110 and Rodinal tomorrow. I also have DDX and I will soon have FX-39II.

I'm pretty sure you'll get it. I swear it wasn't "in stock" at Cinestill just a day or so ago, but I could be wrong. My wife says I'm wrong from time to time so maybe I am. I have near to 100' of bulk HR-50 left and have been holding off using anymore until I got some FX-39II. I did get what I would call very good results with HR-50 developed in Barry Thornton's 2-bath and Rodinal 1+25 with gentle agitation.

This is my first order from Cinestill and they say they will ship USPS ground. How is there shipping?
I have just started to shot film again after a few years hiatus and I picked up 100ft of HR-50 after watching a video here by Andrew O'Neil on using the film and was intrigue by its high red sensitivity. I will process my first two rolls and I will use the 1:25 for the Rodinal and use that gentle agitation scheme. I am down to the basic stainless tanks and reels. The other roll I will run in HC-110. Any suggestions on time and dilution? I had heard 1:63 9:00 min at 20 degrees.

I haven't used HC110 in many years, but you should have pretty good luck with Rodinal 1+25.
That darn Andy has cost me some money also. I'll watch one of his videos and say, "that looks darn nice, I got to try that", then I go out and buy what I need to do it. Darn him! Now I have no money left for donuts.😏😏

I just ordered a bottle of Adox 110 syrup from freestyle so they will ship it when they receive it.
This is a great source for info on HC-110 and I suspect that this will also lend itself to Adox 110
https://www.covingtoninnovations.com/hc110/index.html
Check it out, probably TMI 😉
Yes, the Covington site is the "all you want to know about HC-110" site. I don't think or know for sure if Adox HC-110 is the same as the old style Kodak HC-110 heavy syrup. It's probably close, but not exactly the same.

No you're right, it was showing "out of stock" Wednesday & was showing "Will be available after March 7th" on their site. Must've gotten some Thursday morning.

Thanks, I thought I was going loony for a minute. Wonder why Freestyle didn't get some smaller 100ml size in? Oh well, at least it's here in. the good old USA.

Well, Freestyle shipped it the 17th via FedEx and it's still hasn't showed up. It usually takes about two to three days. I tracked it and it says weather delay. Must be one heck of a storm between West Michigan and Calf.
