OK, I'm not the brightest plate in the cupboard but eventually I catch on. I've been blaming my film holders for leaks when all of a sudden the lights went on. DOH!!

Leak's always in the same corner and the film holder channel is also blackened.

So I have a years worth of 12X20 work (OK, so that's less than 20 sheets) that I never had a fighting chance of getting perfect! Arrgggghhhhhhh!!!!

It seems that the heavy paper / foil factory packaging is prone to have the corner of the films worry a hole through the foil during shipping and the little light cardboard packaging doesn't offer any real protection if the foil / paper is compromised. I just broke the seal on my 3rd of 3 ten packs to see if that packaging was already compromised and it also was just as the other 2 were. This stuff is too costly and too difficult to be screwed up with compromised film!

If you have some of those 10 packs I suggest you go check them.

Jim, I thought the only ten packs were the kodak tmax. Don't the Adox/ Efke and J&C come in 25 sheet packs?

Now they do. Then (this stuff has been in my freezer and had an exp. 10-2005) they had 10 sheets in very light cardboard package. Lighter than most of the printing papers come in.

I see, I know it doesn't help the shots that were ruined but you may want to contact John. Even though the film expired it is the packaging that was faulty. He may replace the film and that would ease the pain a little.

Yes, this is not a complaint against John who always gives me the most impeccable service. Just thought others might want to check if they have those same packs in the freezer.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jim. Very clever of you to solve that mystery.

I've got 3 of the 12x20 10 sheets packs in my freezer; I'll check them out this weekend.

Jim, I had this same problem with EFKE 12x20 ten sheet packages and John quickly replaced the film.

John is in Germany I think at the moment going to Photokena. I bet anything that once he is back he will take care of the problem. He has always been good to me.

I use the JandC Pro 100 in 8x10 and it comes in those little cardboard packs. If you get a tiny hole poked in the back from the film edge or something, light WILL ruin the film.

I've saved up some old film boxes, and move the film from the packs into normal boxes.

The packs are nice for travelling however, because they are more compact. Also, they keep the cost down abit.

Update! John responded in a PM and will replace the bad films for me. Can't support a guy like that enough! We are lucky to have J&C Photo.
