ADOX_CHS100_II_4x5.jpg

In the summer we had successfully undertaken a first testrun with CHS 100 II sheetfilm emulsions.

In the meantime the layer build up of the sheet films is by now stable on the cascade.

35mm and 120 films are more complex and we are still in the optimizing process.

In the meantime the fans of a “slightly larger” format can enjoy their favorite material again.

For the re-intoduction we donated CHS 100 newly desigend boxes.

Buy now in Europe.

(New CHS 100 II is on it´s way to Freestyle in the US as well).

A wonderful film, glad it's back! More importantly, very good news that the coating line is starting to work to your satisfaction.

I’ve been looking at websites looking for some CHS ART 100 in 35mm, so I’m pleased to read that ADOX is working toward a new tranche of this film in 35mm.

Check with Jacques at argentix.ca he normally carries Adox products and can probably get it.

As soon as I posted I checked his website. Listed as not in stock. I'll send him an email.

Users of this film, can you comment on it? What do you like about it? Tonally, reciprocity, etc...What sets it apart from other 100 speed films? Thank you.

Andrew, try ordering directly from fotoimpex. I ordered yesterday morning and just got the notice they are shipping out today, directly to me, here in New Hampshire.

Hello Andrew,
I do like the following characteristics of CHS 100 II:
- very sharp
- very high resolution for a film with conventional emulsion technology (non T-grain film), see below
- very nice tonality
- very versatile, because it can be also reversal developed as BW transparency film with excellent results
- excellent price-performance ratio.
When the first run was introduced in 2014 I also included CHS 100 II in my scientific resolution test programme. Here are the results (system resolution with Zeiss ZF 2/50; object contrast of 1:4 = two stops; the first value is for clearly seperated lines, the second one for the limit when still a difference in contrast is visible; developed in Spur HRX):
Adox CHS 50: 90 – 100 Lp/mm
Adox CHS 100: 80 –90 Lp/mm
Adox CHS 100 II : 100 – 110 Lp/mm
Fomapan 100 : 75 – 90 Lp/mm
Ilford FP4+: 75 – 90 Lp/mm
Kodak Plus-X: 80 – 100 Lp/mm
Adox Silvermax: 105 – 115 Lp/mm
Films with modern emulsion technology:
Ilford Delta 100: 130 – 140 Lp/mm
Kodak T-Max 100: 135 – 150 Lp/mm
Fuji Acros 100: 115 – 130 Lp/mm.

Best regards,
Henning

Show off! :D

Yep! Merry Christmas!

Actually I loaded up the truck, because to the USA their shipping starts at 35 Euros regardless of quantity (or so it seems when I tried an initial order go). By ordering a lot, shipping was not much more than 35 Euros, and I got a lot of film that I could not find anywhere else at the time. And the price per box went way down.

In my experience 6.5x9cm and 2.25x3.25" B&W sheet film is not easy to find. Choices are very limited.

Had my way with a box of 4x5 over the past couple of weeks. I've tested it with Pyrocat-HD at 1+1+100, and 2+2+100. In 1+1+100, an EI of 40 for normal contrast, and 50 for 2+2+100. My normal time for 1+1+100 is 9:00. 2+2+100 gives me a normal time of 4:00... Four minutes is way too short from what I'm used to, but the sheet came out nicely developed (BTZS tube)... I'll use the stronger dilution for extended development. In regards to the film's characteristic curve, it has a longish toe... I prefer films with a shorter toe... Perhaps that's why I had to expose it much higher on the scale to get better separation in the shadows... It has a nice, long straight line section, with a very gradual shoulder after zone 8.
Grain is nice and tight. Sharp.
For the image shown, I used the 1+1+100 dilution at 21C. Less development was given to tame the bright snow... EI 32 was used. I'm quite happy with the results. I'll do a little reciprocity testing and then it's off for some serious field work. I'm glad I ordered two boxes!
