Adox CHS 100 & CMS 20 in 120 availability projections

I've been there multiple times, when I visited Agritechnica and Eurotier at the Messe and a few times a changed trains at the Hbf. I have no imagination how it further will look like, always nice to explore new places.

Which part of the forum we have to keep an eye on to read about the meeting?

Having processed the original CMS20 120 format many, many times in a variety of developers I only say that Adotech IV is a little bit better than Obsidian Aqua or 510 Pyro which ended up as my favourites. But I like to push the boundaries and would normal happily use a developer that is just a bit better. But your analogy is flawed in the sense that 'Film Review Blog No.23' is as much about the photographer and the short time he spent with CMS20II and not about lab testing. There was one very bad result but the others using D76 and even Rodinal were not disgusting and could probably be improved with more familiarity. As for your comment above about LF and MF they are two entirely different disciplines and quantity does not equate to quality. For any photographer who can self edit their work you do not get 12, ten, or even eight successful images on a roll, you generally speaking get one or two at best. As such the hit rate between MF and LF is very similar in terms of film area used for anybody who can stand to be self critical. If you do your sums from that basis the price of Adotech IV doesn't look so rosy.

Neither have I done any analogy, nor have I made any comment about the photographer.
I have just said that the results he presented with standard developers are not as good as the results I get with Adotech. Simple as that.

With Rodinal the results can come closer to Adotech compared to other developers. But precise Eintesten / test-in / testing with evaluation of the characteristic curve is needed to come to that point.
As said by me above: CMS 20 II can be an outstanding film when you are willing to first invest a bit of time. And knowledge, if you don't have yet the knowledge to do a proper Eintesten of a film-developer combination. For those who already have that standard, basic knowledge of BW film photography and self developing at home it isn't a problem at all.

Maybe that is the case for you. I think first before I press the shutter, no matter which format I am using. If I would only get 1-2 good shots from a film roll, I would have be forced to abandon film photography for financial (and satisfaction) reasons long ago. I am not a rich man. I cannot afford wasting 95% of my film.

See above, and also by that you are prerequisiting that every LF shot is a keeper. Which is unlikely following your first statement.

My 15 rolls of CHS in 120 are almost gone... I remember that in April the cutting machine had to be changed over from film to backing paper but the engineer had some other challenges first. What's the current status of 120 production?

Adox says on their web site: β€œno release date at present”. That doesn’t sound good. I’m going to be very careful how I use the rest of my stash of it. (Glad I bought as much as I could afford back in February!)
As far as I know, there’s none to be had, anywhere.

Edit: apparently Cinestill has it in stock. So, if you really want some, you better act, or you might be waiting a LONG time for it to reappear.

I'm sure they're still working on it & dont want to say *too* much/give a rough date, because any issues that may suddenly pop up could set them back who knows how long.

I just bought 15 in November, thinking they would be available regularly after that. I prefer to buy from Fotoimpex directly, since they will put the benefits into new products or machinery. I found another place that has it in stock as well, will buy it there since I don't want to support Cinestill.

That's fine. But I think it's unfortunate that many people have decided to boycott Cinestill after reading the ridiculous statement from CatLabs, in which CatLabs claims that "Cinestill sued us" over the trademark violation business. It's been demonstrated through investigations that Cinestill has NOT sued CatLabs, and that Omer/Catlabs manufactured this egregious falsehood out of spite. And yet many people took CatLabs at their word and have donned pitchforks and torches to storm Cinestill's castle.

That said, I would prefer to buy from Fotoimpex as well, but they don't have any, and it's very uncertain when they will be able to offer it again. I'm betting we won't see a fresh run of CHS 100 II in 2024.

Just developed in FX 39 and scanned my cache of CHS 100 II in 120. I've decided that's my film for the winter (when I shoot only B&W, going back to color during "leaf" season). So, hoping it's available again. I love it.

I have a couple of boxes of 4x5, and a few rolls in the freezer. I'm waiting for 120 HR-50.

I just developed one of my few remaining rolls (120) of CMS 20 last week. I hadn't printed a CMS 20 neg in quite a long time, but I was quickly reminded of the stunning detail from this film behind the glass on my 500C/M.

I keep missing getting some CHS-II 100 in 120. Its sold out again and even Freestyle has pushed off their availability until next year now. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but now that isn't the case. I have some of the film in 35mm, but haven't shot it yet. Maybe I should dig out a roll and see if I like the look. Its based off the old Efke films, mainly Efke 100, but with the 25 and 50 speed orthopanchromatic sensitivity. I heard the grain on the new stuff is slightly finer as well. I have some old Efke 100 I should shoot along side the new stuff. Maybe I'll do a video of it for fun.

I thought it was based on an old ADOX film from the early 60s (maybe late 50s)?
